80psi?

I have a Cougar 31SQB that came with load range D tires (65psi). Does anyone know whether the factory wheels are rated for load range E tires?

I'm not ready for a tire change yet, but when I am I'd like to get tires with a little more safety margin. The D's seem to be a little light for the load.

Robby9 -

If you look at the wheel, you should find some numbers and letters stamped on it. These may be on the outside - easily visible - or they may be on the inside or on the rim itself.

I recently put new Maxxis E tires on our 2009 Cougar 5th wheel. I first checked the wheel and confirmed it with Discount Tire and on line before buying the tires.

The white, 8 "spoke" steel wheel is 15" dia, 6" wide, bolt pattern 6 on 5 1/2 with a max payload of 2800 lbs and rated at 80 psi.

If your wheels are rated for 80psi be sure to replace the valve stems with the same rating ........ metal valves are better if your tire dealer has them. Travel safely, Hank

I'll check the wheels next time I'm at the storage facility, but I was wondering if anyone here knew the answer.

Hank, thanks for the tip on the valve stems. I never knew there was a difference other than the chrome ones are cool looking.
