Winterizing one of the newer Montana’s with the winterize receptacle

Anyone want to fill me in on how you winterize one of these newer Montana’s with the spot in the wet bay that says winterize? Prefer the air method. I know how to winterize from my old cougar by dumping all the tanks and the fresh water etc I’m just more interested in how the wet bay controls work. Assume i pump air through the black tank flush like normal and the city water connection and it appears the hot water tank bypass is right in the bay. So what is the winterize connection for if only using air method ? Looking to close on a 2021 3854BR next week. It’s in Montana and it’s been really cold there already so I know it’s winterized already but want to fill her up with water for the ride back then winterize when I get home. Also does fresh tank just fill off the city water connection? assume yes but curious if their is also a old school water fill.

Fresh tank fills of the connection, no old school gravity fill. The winterize connection is for pumping antifreeze into the lines using the water pump. If you are going to just blow the lines out, connect your air compressor to the city water port, bypass the water heater and open your faucets, toilet, washer dryer hook up and showers. Don’t forget the outside faucet. I always start with the one furthest away from the connection and work my way to the closest. The last thing I do is open the water heater bypass and blow the line out to the water heater (anode rod removed).

What about tankless water heaters? Do I use the bypass on it, or let it get filled with antifreeze since it’s not a “tank” model??

Makes sense, thank you. and then of course dumpe some rv antifreeze in the pee traps. I was just confused by the winterize port.

Just a note. on my Avalanche there is a fresh water fill connection and a power fill off of the city water connection.

The fresh water fill hose connection is also the port to suck antifreeze into..

In fact the power fill instructions on the door of the convenience center says that when using power fill to remove the cap for the fresh water fill port so the tank can vent.. I tried it this weekend and if I don't take the cap off the hose bib of the port and power fill the tank will burp from the vent in back badly.. take the cap off and it quits burping..

If anyone wants.. I'll run by the trailer and take photos of the instructions and the port layout..

I suspect you can do it either way. If i were you I would contact the water heater manufacturer or check the owners manual to see if it says anything. I doubt antifreeze would harm the water heater, but I’d make sure. I’m not familiar with the proper procedure for them.

I have a follow up question to this original post i made. We are getting some very extended cold weather this week(unusual for this area) and so I wanted to double check the "winterization" the dealer did when I drove off with it(I haven't used fiver yet). It hasnt even been below 32 yet here this winter other than like 3 days right at dawn for about an hour. It definitely had pink in the lines, i simply opened the low point drains for a minute to check. I thought this would be a good time to test this process of winterization myself, so i hooked up another jug with a hose off the winterizing port shown in the picture above. I seemed to get another bottle through the lines after opening up all the valves and letting enough run into pee traps, but I am wondering do you folks let the "pressure build" in the system by letting the water pump pull from the bottle first and after that, then open the various valves? Reason I ask this is because i seemed to be getting a lot of foam and not a ton of pressure coming out of the lines, but I am thinking thats because I let some come out of the low point drains first so gravity did its magic and the lines were partially empty. Sure seems easy to winterize overall with this nice convenience center.
