Good work coming here first. Lots of good posts on tow vehicle (TV) capabilities, real time numbers on what a TV can really tow. Learn from others mistakes as well as making your own.

Just one buying tip... if your new camper is over 10' long, make sure it has a 50A power cord and two A/C units. If you read used camper ads in Craigslist they all say that their camper has ice cold A/C... maybe in December but in July in direct sun an RV cabin will be over 80F in direct sun with one air conditioner even if you make all the clever mods you will see on this forum. Good luck and howdy from the Hill Country.

Welcome to the forum from W TX! As George mentioned, if buying new make sure it has 2 ACs if it's of any size at all. In TX in summer 1 AC just won't get it. I would also recommend consulting the forum as you make your search for TV and trailer. If you've not done it before there are LOTS of things to consider when towing an RV of much size.

Hi JD,
Welcome to RVing and the forum! I went to Ranger Jr College that is close by Granbury and then worked in Texarkana. The dorms back in the '70s did not have AC so I know in Texas about making sure your RV is set up for the heat.
Take care,
Jim

As long as we're giving advice.
Don't fall for the "1/2 ton towable" sales BS, the majority are NOT!
If by chance you don't have either yet, get the RV of your choice 1st then buy the tow vehicle to handle it. If by chance you have a truck be sure to do your own calculations as to what it will handle, DO NOT take any rv/truck dealers word, they don't know or care as as long as they sell you one or the other.
