That is a great pic DirtyOil and truly appreciate you taking the time to post this. Now I have a full appreciation of the install and can see this as the solution for my hitch requirements. Hopefully I can return the favor in the near future.

@ GBR.... How is that Anderson hitch working for you? I'm considering one also but want feedback from actual users first. My TV is a F-250 SWD SB and was wondering how the ball offset to the rear is effecting the driving and front axle load. That 5" setback appears to shift the pin weight behind the rear axle. Is that causing any problems?

I get my 326SRX soon and will report back on the Andersen. Meanwhile:

Unfortunately our RV does not arrive until Aug 25th and we don't take delivery until Sept 12th; so I am unable to opine on the hitches performance at this time. I found in my research that the placing of the hitch in either the forward or rear position does not have any effect on moving the weight of the trailer fore or aft of axel. This is due to the large distribution area of the base of the trangle shape of the unit. As I am not a physics major I would not be able to confirm this. I had a Reese Rail system installed and set up is a breeze. This was the 1st install by this RV dealer and they were quite impressed with the unit. We are hoping to do a comparison tow using standard 5th hitch against the ultimate 5 th hitch to see if there are any noticeable differences. If or when we do it I will post. So, it looks like you will be letting me know how much you like yours first. I recommend you order the chain kit. Just to keep you legal in all States and in Canada. Easy to set up but it does remove the convenience of have the remote pin lock of not jumping into the truck bed.

No, you'll beat me to the test as we are just going to be ordering in the next week or so. Adding safety chains is no biggy for me... no need to worry what the laws are then. On the chain subject, I'm thinking of reversing the setup so the spring hooks get mounted to the king pin adapter. By hanging the hooks some how on the hitch frame when not in use would allow me to just reach in the bed and make the connection on the adapter. No need to climb in the bed. Sure it adds more work when removing, but in my case, I'll be leaving the hitch installed, but covered, when not in use. Good luck and I'll be looking for your post.

Actually, I was also looking at reversing the hookup of the chains as well! The eye looks are quite substantial and appears that It will be a quick disconnect. I am also looking for some chain sleeves just to insure that any rubbing against the truck bed and the hitch does not scratch or cause any excessive noise. If you see any or a solution please post as I will if I see any. I have been out of the RV experience for 10 years now, having had an Outback TT in 2004. So the 5th wheel experience is new and as is the non standard hitch. Should be an exciting tow experience to say the least. Good luck and thanks for the post.

Good idea on the sleeves. Thinking maybe just some clear hose that can be bought by the foot at the local hardware store should do just fine.

That is a good alternative. I saw this solution online which is inexpensive. This may work as well. http://www.awdirect.com/chain-sleeve...covery-straps/.

I like what they have done with the light weight hitch. This would be much easier to take in and out of the bed of the truck. I would hate to give up my slider thou... Wonder if that is next on Anderson's list?

I used two bicycle tire inner tubes,. Been using the Anderson hitch for two seasons now, no issues. Have pulled about 20k miles with it... I'm waiting for the fiver frame to break... according to nay sayers... my fiver's back should have broken by now!

Now that is a perfect solution especially since I have a couple of tubes sitting in my garage. Thanks

Just a note that I received it in writing today from MOR/ryde that the use of the Anderson Ultimate hitch has no effect on their products warranty or functionality.

Sounds like the Anderson is getting more and more attention. I am still not sure if it would work on a 6'4" bed in a ram 3500

I received a similar response from Lippert as well and installing in a 6.5 box on my f250. You simply reverse the hitch which has a 5 inch set off from the center. You can also reverse the pin assembly an additional 5 inches if so desired, for a total of 10 inches.

I retrieve my 326SRX early next week with an Andersen hitch. The entire concept of the 24,000# rated hitch just makes too much sense to ignore or criticize.

So far, I have towed 1500-1600 miles with the Andersen goose neck 24,000# version with no issues. Easy to remove, hitch/unhitch, no rails in the bed, no bucking or chucking and its half the price of a conventional 5er hitch or a Reese Goose Box. What's not to like?

Nice and clean setup Steve especially where you don't have to deal with rails when not towing. All ready for the maiden haul in the morning so will post my report next week. No email or cell phone service where we are going just R&R and libations. Happy haulin Steve with you new rig.
