Planning predicament.....

Howdy all....

Trying to plan a nice trip trip for July 3-7th around Central or North Texas.
It’s the DW, 5 kiddos, the pups and little ol me.

Considering a few things. We like the state parks where one has nice shade from natural trees and hills and rock stars to climb for the kids.
Ft Richardson, Dinsosaur Valley, etc. but most of the TX state parks are extremely limited on sewer hookups. So I beg to ask......does one buy the honey pot wagon and make trips to the dumping station daily (because it’s 7 of us) or keep in looking else where.

Would you mind providing your experiences with the honey pot wagons and any suggestions on campgrounds.

Looking to stay away from the parking lot locales and have shade and sewer.

Kind of a tall order to request. Thanks in advance all you RV Warriors.

I suggest Sowell Creek, or Copperas Creek COE at Proctor Lake... Both have what you want... Don't know if you can get a spot at this late date though..

Mineral Wells state park has water, trees, rocks & shade, but better call now & still may be too late.
As for the honey pot, NO, had one & gave it away. If you do buy one, buy, or make a hose about 18" long & get the extra twist on valve to add to your rv, otherwise you have no control to shut off the yuk when pot is full.
I recommend going to the bath house to shower & potty & save the rv tanks for nighttime use, especially with your large group.

Most people do not use a blue tank to empty black waste. It's a MESS to clean up, makes the blue tote an "unfriendly component" and you'll never get the smell out of it.

Most who have done it, either buy another tank for gray water and throw the old one away, or spend days and days trying to get the stench out so they can use it for gray water only.....

I'd urge you not to "experiment with black water in a blue tote"..... Lessons learned from others are much less painful !!!!!

Thanks for the quick replies.
I was figuring the honey pot would be a major pain. Glad to have a confirm on that.

I’ll get to looking at those campgrounds.
Thanks again.

Can't help much with TX parks but we often dry camp and find if the boys use the outdoor/public facilities and the girls are careful with the indoor facilities 5 days can work w/o a midweek clean out. You mention State Parks and we find these usually have nice restrooms w/ running water and often times shower facilities.
Personally, I agree completely w/John. Never have and will not ever own/use a tote for black water. Actually camped next to a couple who did and had to ask them to move the stinky dang thing to the other side of their camp

I have to throw in with those who say "NO!" to using the blue tote. It's a huge hassle, sometimes a huge mess, and always a BIG odor problem, unless you're prepared to bleach it out after each dump. Been there, done that, won't ever do it, again. Lots of luck getting a spot in any TX. State Park, now, for the July 4th weekend. It's not going to happen, I'd bet. Mineral Wells and Possum Kingdom are great. Dinosaur is great. If you find a spot, right now, grab it! Yeah, tell the crew that they need to use the public facilities, which are great at the aforementioned parks. Your RV toilet should be for emergencies, only. After all, those 3AM walks to said facilities, with a flashlight in hand, and fears of terrors that lurk in the shadows, along the way, are what make camping fun, for all!

Terrors of the night! Raccoons make bear sized noises in the dark.

Found this place via a friend. Seems to be great for kiddos.....pricey compared to the state parks, but sewer hookups included!
