3 hours or so from Chicago/Rockford

Are there any nice places to take our camper for the weekend about 3 hours or so from Chicago/Rockford IL.

My wife and I would like to go to a nice place with some attractions or things to do near by, but being that it will be our first time out with it, I don't really want to go too far.

Thanks!

Within 3hours of Chicago I have been to the following places. All have nice campgrounds.
*Starved Rock State Park (IL)
*Mississippi Palisades Sate park (IL)
*Yellowstone Lake State Park (WI)
* Governor Dodge State Park (WI) (close to House on the Rock)

Darlington, WI. Campground is right down town. It's on the Tri County trail system and about 30 mins from Mineral Point, (nice little town with lots of shops, restaurants) New Glarus, (cute little swiss style town with a nice brewery) Monroe, WI (restaurants and cheese shops)
Or walk across the street from the camp ground and rent an ATV and take the trail to Mineral Point or Monroe.
love the area and the trails are "multi use" so, you can ride a bike, walk, ATV, motorcycle, etc.

I like the looks of Darlington, the trouble is there are no reservations.

If you haven't been to Wisconsin Dells you have to go there. The boat tours are beautiful and the Tommy Bartlett shows are great. There are campgrounds all around that area. Great hiking in that area as well. One of the greatest places around the Midwest.

We always get there on Thursday evening. There's still plenty of spots.

If you go to the Dells, you are also close to Baraboo for the circus museum and ho chunk indian casino. And Ho Chunk Casino has added an RV park that is really clean and affordable, but not a lot of shade yet.

I recommend Stand Rock Campground in the Dells. Nothing fancy, but it's wooded with a fishing pond, pool, camp store, and the offer free coffee in the am at the bar/game room.

It's a little out of town, so you don't get all the noise from the strip, but it's close enough to all the attractions.

A little pricy but how about Yogi Bear in Warrens Wi-full water park and bands on weekend. Very busy but we try to go there at least once a year.
