Silly question.

I've seen this on a few threads and was wondering, what is a slam latch?

erjs05, Howdy;

You might try the search function, there are several threads where it is mentioned and some have a link to pictures.....

They are typically latches on the exterior compartment doors of RV's .
Here's a photo at Amazon.com illustrating one

They are used on motor homes and high end rvs to secure storage compartments.

Some of the Keystone models now offer them.

The typical Keystone compartment door is a sandwich of filon, foam, and plastic with a frame of very thin extruded aluminum. The frame that is screwed to the wall of the RV is equally weak.These doors are way too FLIMSY for slam latches. They might work at first, but would quickly bend and deform.

If anyone wants to upgrade to slam latching doors, it will require a complete replacement of the door and frame. And, it will only work if there is trailer framing on all four sides of the opening.
