Typically you don't read about the fails. The "bad idea" list on this one is long. Common sense tells me that first off he's adding a LOT of weight to the tongue of a camper that isn't designed to handle the weight or stresses. Secondly what are the options when you park to remove it? Get 5 or 6 people in the CG to help you lift it off? Call a portable crane to come lift it off? The thing move the p[ivot point about 5' further in front of the camper.
What happens in the event of an accident? Who's going to show up in court to support the engineering and construction of that monstrosity? I've seen a lot of nonsensical stuff in my day and this one's near the top of the list right there next to the "automatic automatics mask opener for eating" or whatever that ridiculous thing was called.

Agree with the last post. I will also add that those that make and sell any vehicle have an R&D department who has tested stuff we may never have known about, but failed due to reasons 1 person may never have thought about until it was too late.
We the customers of Ford, Ram, Chevrolet and Keystone have to put some faith into the R&D people to get things worked out safely before the product is put out on the streets. Even they fail at times much less 1 guy with an idea and a welder.

Has anyone considered why the OP didn't return with a follow up? Perhaps he didn't make it after his maiden voyage?

Sad but certainly could be true... Hopefully his fabrication and welding skills were up to the task... if not, it could be ugly... maybe he'll reply now with these new posts... who knows...

…..some say he is still in a campground in the hills of Kentucky ….trying desperately to disconnect from his pickup truck so he can turn around and get back to his laboratory (driveway) to work on updates to his fifthgoostrail hitch

I seen a "Big Tex" gooseneck flat bed loaded with a guys truck camper and off road vehicle. That would be my choice vs building it myself.

Doubtful. The OP of this thread is Barry Pelphrey and listed his home as Lexington, KY. The owner of BP Conversions is Mike Blaschke who says he was raised in Bonnie View, TX and currently lives in Rosenberg, TX, where BP Conversions is located.... There's a little over 1,000 miles between the two...

Folks have tried all sorts of schemes to pull large trailers from the "this conversion" contraption to making a dolly affair to put under the tongue, to whatever other "Rube Goldberg". I don't understand why folks try to reinvent the wheel. The perfect, ideal product has been available nationwide for many decades. It's called a larger truck.

I’d imagine it would void any and all warranty’s on the frame and structure of the trailer….lippert had the memo about Anderson hitch’s for fifth wheels…they probably just shake there head and mumble over this one

There was a time when travel trailers were built on a "two rail steel chassis" with strong crossmembers to hold them in alignment with a A frame tongue on one end and two "heavy duty axles" under it so you could move it. The "house" was built on top of that and added to the structural integrity of the "whole assembly".

Now, more and more, frames are stamped steel "bits and pieces" riveted together where smaller pieces fit together to form "flex points, crush zones, transition sections and mounting locations for the upper structure".... Some even have drilled as much metal as possible away from the frame "under the guise of making the frame lighter without reducing strength" (until the stress comes from a "not designed to do that" direction...

Back when cars were built "the old fashioned way, (2 steel rails with 4 wheels bolted to them, a drive train, wrapped in a steel body with a steel dash and steel bumpers at each end) someone might have considered "hooking the two together with a "Rube Goldberg" contraption to make it what it isn't so it works like it could.....

Sort of like putting jet engines on Wilber and Orville's first plane or putting propellers on the space shuttle.... Some things just "aren't intended to work the way people envision"..... But, Hey!!! If someone doesn't try, we'd have never known "that won't work".....

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "Hey, hold my beer and watch this"
YMMV

I think there should be a museum, maybe call it the "Vehicle Inventions That Failed Museum". Inside a display of all those marvels like the "air cleaner tornado" and the "fuelbline magnets" that promised to double your fuel milage. Another sectoon of solar cell devices like the dasboard battery charger that plugged into the lighter socket. Or the solar cell fan thzt you rolled up into the winfow to keep your car cool. And of course the "static straps" that some golks still swear worked. I think this iteration (I call it the miracle hitch) would make a great memorial between the parking lot and the front door.

Here is the BPconversions warranty... if your camper goes bouncing down the road if their product fails, they offer $500 to fix it. Ouch. It their product breaks you pay to have it shipped back to them? Ouch.

WARRANTY AND RETURN POLICY
All our conversions come with a limited lifetime warranty. Lifetime on materials and welding, 90 day on electrical.
If any defects resulting under normal towing conditions occur, BPC (BP Conversions) will prescribe and pay for a solution to fix the conversion.
If any damage occurs to the host trailer under normal towing conditions, as a result of a malfunction with the conversion hitch, BPC will reimburse owner up to $500 in damages.
If the customer wishes for BPC to correct the defect at the BPC facility, then the customer will pay for shipping to and from this facility.
If for any reason the conversion is returned to BPC, freight costs are the expense of the customer. The conversion will need to be as it was received, palleted and secured, with all brackets and hardware.
All refunds will be determined on an individual basis.

What a deal! Reminds me of a guy selling tools at a flea market I talked to meny, many years ago. He told me he "personally warranties the tools for a lifetime". I asked him " What does that mean? Does it mean I spend the rest of my lifetime hunting you down to get a $5 ratchet replaced?" He smiled then offered to give me a free pocket screwdriver. What a deal!

I once asked my barber about a warranty, he was honest and said "it's void once you walk out the door."

I love the concept

Though when you unhook the truck you got a huge mass hanging out in from of the camper to walk into and hit your coconut.

ouch!

Nothing really normal about an erector set connected to the front of the trailer

All I can say is, if anyone decided to do something like this to you travel trailer, you better get a new mind set.

It's not uncommon to hit the trailer hitch with your shin (ouch), or even the trailer coupler (ouch again). But with that set up ... you're destined to get a really good head-knocker!
