Backup Camera Field of View

Just had a back up camera installed. At present the way the camera is positioned, I can only see about 13 to 15 feet behind me and I can just see the top of the spare tire. It was set up this way to avoid running into things..but...it sure does not seem to aid in backing into a space. Seeing as how I will have spouse spotter to keep me from hitting stuff...how far back should I set the camera to see....20 feet? 40 feet?...infinity and beyond? I'm sure some users out there have some insight....here's a link to the camera.

Help. Thanks...

I double tow the boat behind our fifth wheel. My camera is angled so I can see the trailer hitch and the boat. Without it, I'm "travelling blind" and can't see what's happening with the boat/motor/trailer. I can see maybe 20' behind the boat, but certainly nothing much further than that. I use the tow vehicle side mirrors to check adjacent lanes and the camera to check the immediate area behind the trailer.

As for using it to back into a campsite, either I'm "terrible at backing with a camera" or "it's not helpful"... Either way, after 40+ years of backing into spots with a travel trailer, I wouldn't consider "tight spaces" without a spotter, hopefully the one I trust, my DW......

If you hear the crunch... it's too close! LOL

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I feel that 10 to 20 feet should be more than adequate. You don't need to see the whole campsite, only the landmarks, and the obstacles.

Good Luck,

I put the Tadi brothers setup on our last fifth wheel. I think it was the 120 degree fov camera. I preferrred using it as a rear view mirror as it didn't really help with spacial awareness when backing. I still needed/preferred a spotter. That said, I had it aimed so the closest I could see was about 10 to 15 feet off the back of the bumper leaving a very small blind spot and the top of the fov was just below the horizon which gave excellent rear view and to the sides when passing. Keeping it just below the horizon also prevents blooms during sunrise and sunset.
