GFCI cover for indoor washroom

I am sure this has happened to many of us with GFIC outlets in the washroom, the test button is accidentaly bumped and the circuit is interrupted as it should be, you only notice there is no power to plugs when your outdoor fridge isn't cooling, lights won't turn on, exterior tv has no power, ice maker isn't keeping up with the beverages being served

I have two young kids who often accidentaly press the test button while sitting on the toilet, getting in/ out of the washroom, reaching for toilet paper...

I have even helped fellow campers diagnose this common issue as they scratch their heads, they have looked at breakers, fuses but often overlook the test button being pressed for the washroom plug...

I am looking for a simple cover / plate / door to put over this test button / outlet. The outlet is very rarely used, except when the DW wants to blow dry her hair.

I have searched google and Amazon, anyone come across a protective cover or have a suggestion to prevent the accidental tripping f this circuit?

Thanks.

What about a waterproof outlet cover of the type normally used on the outside of a house?

I had the same problem and I just plugged a simple night light into the bottom plug. It covers the test button and can be removed easily if needed.

Thanks Larry and dwall,

Both great ideas, I was considering the exterior cover as well.

Larry the one you have shown seems like it may be simple to just place over the existing box / face plate. I will check that out.

Also I wail keep my eyes peeled for a simple, flat night light that does not extend out to far from the cabinet but covers the test button. This would also be good for night so I don't need to turn on the bathroom light, but rather have a Scott night light left on in the washroom.

Thanks.

Not sure how much space you have, but this might work.

duplex to 6 outlet tap

Try a GFCI Breaker

You can replace the GFCI receptacle with a standard (non-GFCI) receptacle to prevent accidental contact with the test button. To keep the circuit ground fault protected, replace the circuit breaker that connects to that receptacle with a ground fault circuit breaker. If you ever do encounter a ground fault and the unit trips, you will need to reset it on the circuit breaker. But no more bumping into the test button on the front of the receptacle.

My rig uses Square-D "HOM" type breakers. This picture is an example of a GFCI HOM breaker. Find out what brand and type breaker your panel accepts, then you can find a GFCI replacement breaker from HD, Lowes, or an electrical distributor. Then you can use a standard receptacle and still be protected.
