Changing awning length

We have a Hideout with an outdoor kitchen we use all the time. Is it possible to change the awning length so it covers the kitchen. the current awning stops just short of the kitchen. it would be nice to have the kitchen covered for those rainy days or when the sun is beating down.

Welcome to the forum

What is the current length of your awning? Changing the length would mean a new tube and fabric, which isn’t real cheap and shipping can be expensive due to the size.

Welcome to the forum!!

I would consult with your trailer and awning manufacturers to confirm how to properly secure a longer one to the trailer. These links provides general instructions on installing a new awning: https://www.etrailer.com/faq-install...m-scratch.aspx AND https://www.baysiderv.com/how-to-install-rv-awning

Would one of those Flea Market style upright shade tents work? Not sure what they are called otherwise. Wall Mart sells them. A lot cheaper anyway.

Doable. Measure the width of the arm, is there enough room between the rear corner and the outdoor kitchen door? Will it cover any windows? You will also have to install added length of awning rail.

Ours is 19’ and covers our outdoor kitchen, which is nice. We have a Lippert Solera power awning, and recently replaced the awning roller tube and fabric due to an accident that damaged the old one. It was roughly $750 including shipping, and due to supply constraints it took 7 months from the day we ordered it to the day we received it.

With that in mind, there are a few other considerations; is the current length of the horizontal mounting rail long enough to accommodate the wider awning fabric? If not, you will need to replace the existing one or add onto it. Are you prepared to have the old mounting holes visible once you remove the rear arm assembly and move it 4’ towards the back? Are you comfortable locating the sidewall framing to attach the relocated arm assembly? Do you have the necessary sealants and mounting hardware?

Just a few things to consider as you think about this

Thanks for all the info. The mounting bracket runs all the way to the back of the trailer. Only problem is the current arms are too long and would lose the indicator light. Might have to rethink this a bit. Filling the holes and putting a happy camper sticker over them might work lol
