Bad wreck

This happened today south of where we live. Not sure if all the details, but none of it looks to be good. Be safe out there folks!

I can say with some professional authority that that is not a Reflection, it is a Rotation.

Don’t like the hole in the windshield, but also interesting that the body of the 5th wheel is separated from the frame!

"But the salesman said it was 1/2 ton towable & my F150 could easily handle it!"......
Hope no one was seriously injured!

It was sarcasm!

Yep that hole tells an ugly story.

True, but the picture shows a Ford SuperDuty.
So a F250 or F350

Agree with the hole in the windshield telling a bad story.
As a retired First Responder, I've seen several accidents where the victims most likely would have walked away had they been wearing their seatbelts instead of leaving in a bag.
Prayers for all involved.

Yep, those mirrors are not a F-150.

I'm guessing he did a very hard stop and that 5th wheel came forward somehow.

The truck stayed upright, so I don't think a swerve was involved.

Very odd how the trailer separated as it did?????

The windshield is broken in. I know it could have been someone going through and then back, but it looks like something else came in from the outside. Guardrail maybe??? I don’t know how, but strange things happen

i’m thinking first responder broke it out to get to the driver? so they could cut out the airbags …. when airbags go off they can make it hard to see how to extricate them i’d imagine

Yeah, the left side fender is smashed up real good, as is the guard rail....
But it almost looks like some kind of contact on that side came first, a deer, or?

This brings up a question:

What happens if the airbags deploy from a minimal impact, like a small deer, at 70 miles an hour?

Is the driver SOL?

I can give a partial answer to this question. When hitting a couple of mule deer does at 75 mph, the front air bags did not go off but the side airbags in the seats and door frames did. And they hurt like heck and leave huge bruises on upper arms. One doe went down the passenger side of my dad’s truck (I was in the passenger seat and her head hit the windshield in front of me) and the other went straight under the truck. That one left a “trail” of stuff all the way under the truck and up the middle of the tailgate. (The duck tape was not to hold the bumper on, but to hold the headlight bulb in place since it happened at night and we needed the one headlight to sort of see with to follow a good Samaritan to the next town).

That’s why I absolutely avoid driving at night as much as possible in the Midwest. Growing up in Wisconsin, I’ve hit my fair share of deer after dusk.

Deer strikes kill people on the road every year, less since the air bags became mandatory. If anyone lives near an "uncontrolled runway" ( an airstrip without an air traffic controller on duty) a pilot will often "buzz the runway" at night before landing. The thin light aluminum of a small aircraft is no match when playing full contact sports with wildlife.

I used to say 10 pm was my "witching hour" at which time I needed to be home and off the streets. That's now changed to "dark". Not only because the miscreants like to come out after dark but due to the wildlife. In all the miles I've driven I've been lucky enough not to hit a deer or any other larger animal...but I did almost run "under" an elk with my CJ7. He was so tall in comparison to that Jeep that I figure I would have just wedged under his belly while he swung that 7x7 rack at me. We're in the TX hill country now and suppose you could hit a herd of these deer and none would be tall enough to hit the bumper....

So that's what happened in the pic above? The driver answered his phone while driving after midnight...

Sorry, cheap shot. Sure, accidents happen but I do hope everyone got out OK. It does seem odd how the whole body of the 5er came off the frame. I haven't found anything online that sheds more light on this.

If I had to guess ( strictly a guess) on the 5 ver frame separation it would be from impact to the frame at speed. My guess would be that cable guide rail cut thru the wall and inertia took it the rest of the way. Just a wild guess.

I wouldn't be surprised. I've seen quite a few accidents with those cable restraints involved. When they first started placing them I was skeptical about their effectiveness but in the accidents I've seen they kept the vehicle on the other side of the median. In this case the sudden stop of the frame by those cables and a very top heavy RV structure could very possibly end up with the top detaching from the frame.
