Lite Weight Trailers vs Travel Trailers

Okay, call me a little OCD (only because you don't know me well enough to roll your eyes and say 'totally OCD'), but there are two sections on the forum for Lite Weight Trailers and Travel Trailers.

I have a Keystone 174rk, 21ft. I just think of it as a Travel Trailer, but is it a Lite Weight Trailer?

Some may think, "Hey weird dude, who cares?"

Well, just wondering which section of this forum this "weird dude" fits into.

If your trailer is designated “lite” or “ lite weight” by Keystone than that section is dedicated to your type of RV.

In the grand scheme of things you fit in anywhere in this forum.

^^^ What he said....

If you look back over the years, you'll find some Keystone fifth wheels that were advertised as "built with helium technology". They're still fifth wheels, not something else, so they still fit the forum section for fifth wheels...

There's some trailers without "lite" or "ultra-lite" in their name. Then there's trailers that don't have those "identifiers" in their model or brand name. They're still fifth wheels or travel trailers, just like their "other brothers"... So they still fit the forum sections for travel trailers or the "new and improved but maybe outdated section for "light weight trailers"....

There was a time when "lite" or "ultra-lite" trailers were built with "sandwich floors", but then, with the water damage to that type flooring, many of the "lightweight brands" went back to solid floor sections, and negated that "division in brands"... Then along came NOCO frames, and 14" tires on trailers, but RVIA changed the tire ratings and many of those 14" tire trailers had equipment updates to 15" tires to meet the new standard. So, are they still "solid floor ultra-lites" or are they something else.....

Then there's the toyhauler section... When you think about it, all toyhaulers are either fifth wheels or travel trailers, so they "fit multiple places" just like the lite or ultra-lite models....

Just wait until you get to the "with In-Command or without In-Command" or other "exclusive features" that are offered....

You and your trailer "fit most anywhere you post a comment"... Just try not to post refrigerator questions in the tires or tow vehicle sections... And, if you do, probably someone on the site team will move it and send you a PM that it's not lost, but put in the appropriate section... (note I didn't say it was "put in a specific place" LOL

Thanks. I’m definitely more husky than Lite, same as my trailer.

I need a CDO section. It's the same as the OCD section except the letters are in the correct order...

All Lite Weight trailers are Travel Trailers, but not all Travel Trailers are Lite Weight.

That's because the F150 has a maximum tow rating of 12,300 pounds.... No regard to anything except "what one manufacturer says about one component of the specifications....

Sort of like putting a supersonic windshield on a Cessna 150. That'll make it fly "supersonic", eh ??? We won't be bothered by the wings, the "propedder" or the fact that the wheels won't retract, it's got a windshield rated for supersonic speeds, so good to go.....

Keystone, KZ, GD, Jayco and all the rest "hang their hats" on "just enuf info" to be dangerous, but not "enuf to paint a complete picture" (and we won't discuss those nasty wheels hanging out there in the airstream) or the pin weight on that 12,000 KZ fifth wheel....

The term "lightweight" is not universal. The term "Lite" was invented I'm guessing by some smart ad man. The typical implication is that it describes something as being less than a similar product. Therefore, an unsuspecting or unaware consumer can order a "lite" burger and fries that only contain 1,000 calories because the "regular" meal contains 1,200 calories. Feel better now?

The terms "Light", "Lightweight", "Reduced whatever" are sales pitch buzzwords just like "New and improved". "Reformulated", "Doctor approved", "Limited edition", and the list goes on. And just like 1/2 ton towable, polar pkg., artic pkg, and many other advertising disceptions the bottom line is BUYER BEWARE.

DURANGO HALF-TON D291BHT
The 38' fifth wheel and almost 12K lbs gross weight is dubbed half ton towable. Wish I had kept my old F150. They claim 1550 lb "dry hitch weight" and there is a caveat at the bottom: *This weight reflects the rolling average unit weight for each model. Your trailer weight will vary according to optional equipment." This stuff should be illegal.

Light wei, 1/2 ton towable - always stated “with properly equipped “ . Most often that means an F150 with both heavy tow and heavy payload packages. Never found on the lot, have to order. May as well buy a 1 ton and be done no matter the manufacturer
