That's almost as gross as me trying to convince my wife that Costco had a nice stainless steel toilet brush that was dishwasher safe. She didn't bite.

DaveAlb,

I did the exact same thing about 3 years ago, only it was a fork.

I never retrieved the fork. To the best of my knowledge, the thing is still in the bottom of the tank. I'm sure there are too many twists and bends in my plumbing for it to discharge on it's own.

When it first went down, I could see it. But I could not reach it. My fore-arms were too fat to go down the hole, and it was also at the bottom of the tank, .... too far to actually reach (my arms are not that long).

I tried multiple ways to retrieve it, until it finally moved out of sight. I was bewildered.

Well, it's now been 3 years and I've had absolutely no issues with my black tank. After about 6 months, I quit worrying about the fork. It didn't seem to hurt anything staying in there.

For those who are skeptical why we dump dish water down the toilet? I can't answer for others, only myself.

First, my kitchen sink grey tank is always the first to fill up. Dumping some of the water (by catching it in a tub) and dumping it down the toilet (which uses the least amount of water), is one way to keep from having to dump the kitchen sink tank so often ..... especially if we are NOT on full hook-up camp sites.

Second, the added water to the black tank puts more water in the black tank so it helps flush it better.

Third, adding dishwashing water (Dawn) to the black tank helps clean it out (just a little bit better).

Fourth, my kitchen sink water and my black tank water do not exit at the same discharge point. They are two separate discharges, about 15 feet apart. So, back Flushing the kitchen grey into the bathroom black is not possible.

Since loosing the fork, I make sure I never press the toilet peddle until I've stopped pouring from the dish wash tub first.

When you do retrieve it be sure to include it in your BL's place setting with a little cork attached.

I suspect you are confused about the definition of the word "wisdom". We have guys auditioning for the Rodney Dangerfield reprisal show. I would report their posts to the site staff but most of are the site staff. \

Seriously, just go buy a telescoping magnet; they look kind of like a pencil, and your tank is shallow and right below your potty. Open potty and fish around. Bet that would do it. I was kidding before about putting a glove on btw and sticking your paw in the hole.

At this point in time, just going to accept having a spoon in the black tank. Just going to try to not add to it and have a complete place setting down there!

I hate to admit it but this happened to us of a sorts, except I was using a toilet brush. The ideas were about the same. Use a camera, a flush wand, flood the tank, etc. After about an hour, I took the toilet off and found the brush on the ledge, so close I could reach in with a gloved hand and pull it out.

The benefit was I had the cleanest black tank since it was newly put in.

I also found the advise, support, and sarcasm on this site to be very helpful.

Good Luck.

Spoon

If all else fails you can by a cheap shop vac with a 3 1/2 inch hose ( I think, measure before you buy). Pull the toilet and the hose will fit snugly in the drain. Then suck everything out. I just recently had to retrieve a toilet cleaner wand from ours. Worked perfectly. I would advise Trashing the shop vac!!!!

A fishing magnet on a strong line. Lots of water in the black tank.

It isn’t the end of the fun. Might just live with it.

Slip and The Family Spoon

If you do recover the Spoon, wash it good and display it in a small shadow box or frame titled “The Family Kitchen Spoon Caper” Excellent camp fire fodder and conversation / coffee talk starter.

then remove it one day as a joke after a particularly big meal and casually tell everyone you put it back into circulation and watch their reactions

Throw a $20 bill in there. A fork by itself isn't worth reaching in after.

A magnet on the outside of the tank would work.
