Screens on E-windows

Hi folks. Have another question for you. My 2013 Springdale Summerland has 2 emergency escape/exit windows. Both have screens, thankfully. My question is how do you get the screens INTO the window where there aren't GAPS that a killer hornet could easily fly in through?


The windows are the kind with the push out lever (red handle, folds in along the bottom of the frame and hooks under a clip to secure), so that the window tilts out, which is nice, as more air flow. But the clip-in screens are really either poorly fitting, or someone put them in wrong. There are large gaps at the corners of the windows. I'll take a picture tomorrow, if anyone needs it, but it is getting dark and I doubt I could capture what I am trying to describe.

They are "not well designed, ill fitting and essentially more cosmetic than functional"...

That said, they are designed to fall away/be easily removed by someone with little or no manual dexterity, such as a small child or invalid adult, so they aren't like the screens on the remaining windows that do not need to be removed in a hurry.

You might consider using some tape to secure them in place, but realize that in an emergency, the tape may delay using the window as an exit... Now, that said, my "big butt" probably ain't going through that window anyway, and in our fifth wheel, it's about 10' off the ground. Feet first, I can't imagine how to get through the window, head first means a broken neck on impact... So, if you're use is similar to mine, then taping the screens in place probably wouldn't delay using the window as an exit any more than not taping the screens would improve using it as an exit.....

A little bit of electrical tape over the space is what I do.

You are right, they are poorly fitting.

I taped mine up, as there is noplace in my RV where a fire would cut me off from both doors but not that window.

I think I will follow your advice (all of you) and just put some tape around the screens.


Thank you, all - I was thinking that maybe I'd need to MAKE a screen with a magnetic edge for both windows, but the tape is much quicker, less demanding and a LOT less expensive.
