I would be very happy just to get 10 mpg with the new diesel while towing. But 11-12 would be almost double what I was getting with the gas truck. Can’t wait to see how it’s going to do. Unfortunately it will probably be a month before we get to go anywhere.
To post a picture or pictures, go to the ADVANCED tab if starting a new thread or use the "QUOTE" function. Below the dialog box is the "MANAGE ATTACHMENTS" button. Push that button and you will see a box pop up that says "CHOOSE FILE". Click that and scroll on your computer till you find the image you want to put in a post. Push "UPLOAD" then "CLOSE THIS WINDOW".

The easiest way to get a picture from phone to computer is to email it as an attachment then save it to desktop or a folder and you will be able to select it to use in the CHOOSE FILE step above.

Nice...We love our new Duramax...Such an improvement over our 2015 gasser. With my gasser I'd get 11-12 MPG and the best on this truck (DIC) is 23. I was shocked. mind you that was cruise set at about 65 mph and the average over 62 miles.

I have purchased the camera to go on the back of the trailer, when the new 5er comes. I'd am going to look into the wheel sensors for the 5er that work with the truck.
Good decision, congrats!

Nice truck, congrats! I was towing a 26’ 10k bumper pull toy hauler with loft (11’8” tall) with a 2014 2500HD CC DMax lifted 6 1/2” on 35s. Usually right around 9-11 mpg from LI, NY through Pocono Mountains and north
Hoping the new Dually will do about the same, better would be nice but new trailer is a behemoth!

I have a 22 gmc cc 3500 duramax. It has 3k miles. Just drove 900 miles towing a 40’ fifth wheel. Towing 70mph. I was getting 8-9mpg. Not great. Hoping once it gets some miles on it that it will improve.

Our fleet just picked up a 22 duramax 3500. It made it all of 900 miles before the first def check engine light.

I doubt the dealer filled the DEF tank, most likely just enough to get you somewhere the fill it yourself.
My '13 would get 3000-3500 miles on the 5.3 gallon DEF tank.

They never fill the DEF. Too much trouble to properly set you up.

Your right. It was only 1/4 full. I put almost 4 gallons in it.

Yeah, but that's a Ford, so there's that

My 2019 SRW 3500 Duramax got solid 12 towing, 14 if I kept my foot out of it. Just traded it for a 2022 DRW 3500, jury is out on that one but looks to be less.

I have a 2020 Duramax 3500. Get an average of 11 mpg towing at 70 mph including through the mountains.

Looks like I’m about the same with my 2017 Duramax, 10-12 towing depending on the roads.

Important DEF note, you will get about 3500+ miles on a tank of def when not towing, you may get as little as 1000 miles when towing!
Always carry an extra jug of def for long trips with limited services. Don’t let it freeze and use it within around 6 months, it does have a shelf life limitation.

I thought GM finally installed a DEF gauge! Guess not!

Luckily this truck had the puck system in the bed so I was able to install our hitch using it. How simple that was! We got around 6 to 7 mpg with the gas truck when towing, I’m hoping the new diesel does a lot better. Safe travels.
Congrats. Don't be afraid use Walmart brand DEF. We used it for 80k miles in our new 2018 GMC 3500hd Duramax. Never a problem with it. Cost was only about $7 for a 2.5 gallon jug compared to $10-$14 for other brands.

Ditto, I use Walmart DEF, no issues. Only place cheaper is to buy it from the pump at some truck stops.

After our first oil change and the dealer's DEF barrell was crystalized, I've used WalMart DEF with the exception of one time in Ohio when all I could find was the "expensive Blue DEF" on the shelf. That was about $15 for a container. Otherwise, WalMart brand is all my truck has ever seen. Zero problems in 72000 miles. Motorcraft DEF is $22 a container, so chances are pretty slim for me to ever buy from the dealership.

My B-I-L's Chevy Duramax has a percentage gauge that gives you a constant reading. My 2018 GMC used a computer display in the dash that told me nothing until I hit 30% left, then began counting down. At 29-30% I could pour in two jugs (5 gal).

So, GM yes, GMC no.

My Chevy also started the alert at 30%, told me I had 600 or so miles left (I was towing), in 100 miles I had 10 miles left and was the first time we came to any kind of a store to buy a jug of DEF.

Glad I didn’t get to test to throttle restriction to 30 or 35 mph.

Low def was not this CEL. It was a bad injector. So your statement might not be too far off. Being they fluid from the factory was probably older than dirt and clogged the injector.
