Should I fix or not?
Yesterday while cleaning my VR-1 I noticed a couple small pits in the top of the front fibreglass nose piece. These holes are very small but is it something I should fix or just something live alone and not worry about?
Here is a picture.
Closer picture so for the cellphone camera picts.

Depending on the size of the pit, I'd at least take some clear epoxy, mix a little and put it in the hole to seal it from further water intrusion/freeze damage. If you choose to repair them, don't get the epoxy on the adjoining surface, just in the pit. I use masking tape around the defect, a toothpick to apply the epoxy and then a razor blade to trim any excess after the tape is removed.
From looking at your picture, it seems your cap/roof seal is getting very close to needing some attention. A good cleaning and a liberal application of DICOR self leveling sealant might be a good idea.

Thanks JT, I'll fix that the next time I'm at the travel trailer. I have some epoxy here at the house that will work perfect for it. Also about the roof cap seal, I cleaned that area already and just applied the self leveling sealant in areas that looked to be getting a little thin with some cracks starting to show. Should I have applied it all the way across the entire seal?

If it were mine, I wouldn't balk at spending $16 for two tubes of DICOR. I would start at one end of the roof cap seal and put new sealant across the entire surface, from one side to another. Just patching the "thin looking areas" from my experience, is a great way to find out what "other areas" will leak before the next time I get on the roof.
When I inspect my roof, I wash it, then get on my hands and knees looking for any defects or anything that "could possibly be a defect" If it's in the slightest way questionable, I brush it well, clean with alcohol, pull off any loose or damaged DICOR and reapply a complete coating over the entire surface making sure to go past the old sealant on all sides. That way, the new sealant will adhere to all the old, and if any of the old may possibly be loose or leaking, the new will extend past it and reseal everything.
When considering a roof on an RV, with all the vibrations, twisting and pulling, sun/water/ice/dirt/mold it gets, being 'overboard" on applying sealant is much better than trying to be conservative.
That's my take on it. Others may have different opinions.

Okay, this is different then what I have been use to the in automotive and motorcycle ownerships, where to much of a good thing can go bad quickly. I've already washed to roof once when I first purchased it so I'll clean those lines and reseal all because all look about the same. The trailer has not had much maintenance done to by the P.O. I've been playing caught up and being a new owner to travel trailers. I'm also learning along the way.
I really appreciate the insight and advice!

We have a saying in our shop:
Silicone sealant: less is best.
Dicor: No such thing as too much.
I will say that I have a different vocabulary when I change a vent

The repairs went well on the fiberglass nose piece this weekend. It was very simple and so was the resealing of the roof seams. The Dicor was messy and time consuming. Afterwards I was glad that I used some throw away gloves. But as always now I found something else. While looking at the roof vent lids I noticed lots of cracks in the plastic. They are in bad need of replacing. Of course I forgot to take any pictures for references. Now I'm back home and want to order a new set but I'm not for sure what to order. Would anyone here happen to know what replacements should be? I don't want to order the wrong lids and it just to become a dust collector on one of the garage shelves. The TT is 90 miles away at the in-laws property so its not as simple as walking out in the driveway.

Unfortunately there are three different hinge styles, so it would be a long shot to say which one you have.
Most common one we install:

Chuck could you tell the type with an inside picture of the vent? The outside is covered in plastic and I don't want my 70 year old in-law climbing up on top of the roof taking pictures for me.

Sorry, probably not. The key is the hinge and looking for the bendable tabs on the ends, all on the outside leading edge of the vent.

Probably the best way to be sure you have (or get) the correct replacement vent lids is to first make sure they are all the same type (often one or two will have been changed by a previous owner or even different types are installed by the manufacturer in the powered vs unpowered applications). Then if they are all the same, take one lid off and take it with you to the parts department so you're sure you get the correct ones. It's very confusing to get to the store and realize that they all look the same except for "that one" which you're sure isn't correct.... If you have your old one in hand, the decision goes much easier.

Ok that sounds like the best plan of attack. Thanks for the advice. I'll take it off and bring it along with me.
I will have to get an early start because the supply houses are at least an hour drive away from where I have the TT stored.

Just a thought, but would you be better installing something like the MaxAir covers and leaving the vent lids as they are? What would be the price difference? I love the MAxAir as I leave my lids open all the time now with no fear of water getting in.

I was going to add a MaxAir Cover to the front lid which is in the bunk room but the vent in the living room is kind of close. I didnt know if it would be good to add one there or not.
A question then, would it be over kill to replace to lids if Im going to add a Max Air Cover?

If the vent lids are intact, I would probably leave them alone. If they are cracked or brittle I would change them.
