New Cougar Owner - Almost

Hello - My wife and I have been on the hunt for a 5th Wheel trailer since the end of RV season last October. We have been to 5 RV shows, my feet still hurt. But nothing is better than sitting down in a comfy new RV after walking in and out of units for a few hours. We have dropped into almost all of the local RV dealers. Some we have returned to a second time for a closer look. Some we have scratched from our list after we get bug bites sitting in 'new' units on the lot. lots of scratching. We found our dream unit two weeks ago. We absolutely love the layout and quality of the Cougar 327RES. Just to be sure we came back a week later and love it even more the second time.

DW (Dear Wife) has already planned 3 trips in May and 2 Trips in July. I spent last weekend getting the pad in our back forty ready for delivery. The backing challange by the barn is a simple 90 thru a 20 foot gate, the front requires 3 tight left turns, into a 12 foot gate, and then a hammerhead move to backup into a jackknife landing. Maybe after I practice the move at walmart but not on the first day. Baby's coming home mothers day weekend.

I found the PDI and have a question. My unit is the Western Edition which includes a sealed under carriage and heated tanks. How do I PDI the sealed undercarriage, seals, pipes ducts, tanks yada yada?

Oh - my TV is a 2008 F-350 CC SRW with 6.5 bed. Planning to have the
CW dealer install a Reese 16K Slider while we do the Walk-around / Inspection.
Whoo hooo. - Blue Sky or Rainy Days are good days to go camping. No more blue tarp camping days for me.

.
You can always remove a few of the self-taping screws securing the black Coroplast, pull down the Coroplast and, using a flashlight, have a peek inside the underbelly. To get a complete overall picture of things, you may have to do small sections at a time. I wouldn't recommend removing an entire section.

While having a peek, make a note of where things are located --- the tanks, valves, etc. - --- in case you have plumbing issues with valves, tanks and ductwork sometime in the future.

Check to see how well it is insulated. It may have chunks of insulation thrown in helter-skelter justifying the term "insulated underbelly".

Good luck with your PDI and TAKE YOUR TIME.

You guys allowed to drop the belly on PDI? I know I didn't... Nor drop the AC cover and inspect the venting.

dcg9381 -
Good point! I guess you would have to check with the dealership as to whether it would allow you to make these inspections.

Congrats on that 5er. ITS a nice layout. the newer ones are even better than my 2011. I like the bedroom layout and the cabinet by the entrance door. BUT we feel in love with the 327RES the moment we walked inside it. We almost bought the 333MKS, but opened that door on the RES and both looked at each other and said "this is it". We put the deposit down and went back to just sit in it, while we were doing this 2-3 couples came to view it. One couple had driven 250+ miles to see the floor plan. SO i understand your joy.
HAve fun.

Patti LOVES the 327 floor plan. If we should ever trade our bunk that would probably be the one we would check out.

Another Cougar327 owner - Us too ! Love it

We got our 327 in April of 2015 . We also loved the rear entertainment setup
A few things we have done/upgraded,
4 6V-GC2 Deep cycle batteries (410 AH total)
Installed 400 Watts solar on the roof (We like to get out there and it stays at our lease during the winter)
1000W Pure Sinewave inverter -
Fantastic Vent to replace the one above the kitchen - our was a crank up vent we couldn't reach.

We also replaced the 2 swivel rockers with a trifold couch so when both couches are deployed its on big bed across the living room. when we brought the kids/grand kids they can now all crash out there./ We still have the recliners, just holding in reserve

enjoy !!
