Lock replacement issue

Replacing the lock in our 2010 Alpine and have this metal panel hiding a huge opening below the existing lock. Is our alpine the only one that has this? It’s a 3500RE. The problem is all of the newer locks are just a little bit larger than the opening we have now so probably going to have to take my little Dremel and cut it 1/4” larger to make the newer locks fit.

You might be better off contacting Southco to find out if they still make a lock/latch for that door instead of trying to modify it. You've got a phone number on that plate. https://southco.com/en_us_int/latches_c

It looks like this may be a keyless assembly that was installed from the factory. This is what is shown on the Trekwood site. https://www.trekwood.com/products/92...Complete-w-Fob
