sink pipe seal

We have a double sink with the smaller having a 90 degree coming off the drain and going into a lateral that the main sink drain feeds. There is a straight pipe out of the main pipe which connects to the smaller sink drain. In the middle is a threaded plastic coupler and I suspect there is a round plastic type seal. A small annoying leak that doesn't quite stop has happened and I believe the seal needs replaced.

After some research, found SLIP JOINT WASHERS. Is this the correct name and is the size the ID of the pipe or OD; such as 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" the correct size for the slip joint washer? Will they have these in a hardware? I believe the things I have in my sink are white plastic looking washers with a beveled edge.

I believe you have the name correct. 1 1/2” is the size you need and should be at your local big box hardware store.

If replacing the washers doesn't stop the leak, you will have to look really close for a crack in the nut or fitting. I had to replace both the cheap plastic drain fittings in the sinks due to cracks, and went with metal assemblies instead of plastic and haven't had any problems with leaks since.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure of size and I already have had first hand on the cracked threaded ring that tightens. My wife hates the cheapo faucet and if I get motivated will likely take all the crappy plastic stuff out and replace it with metal with new sink drains set properly and change the faucet. I would need to take out the pee trap to get up under there.

I’d stick with the PVC STYLE sink pipes ... metal is just not as durable ... I’d also look cliosely at the PVC threaded nut for a small crack..

Overall the PVC will far outlast any metal type sink drain pipes and in the harsh environment of an RV it’s all I’d consider

A nice residential style faucet is a super smart upgrade.. you will have less isssus and parts if ever.needed are readily available
