Toilet not flushing
HI there...I am new to this and a novice RV owner. We bought a Keystone Hideout last year 2012 model to live in after a fire destroyed our home. Our toilet vacuum breaker was replaced as it was leaking. The flusher works periodically. If you push it down sometimes you get water and sometimes you don't. You push down the lever and nothing...go back 10 minutes later and water comes into toilet and flushes well, 10 minutes later no water going into toilet and no sound, nothing....repeat.....repeat. Any answers.
Thank you people.

Welcome to the forum. Any idea what brand/model toilet? Sounds like the flush valve is possibly clogged with debris. Is this the only sporadic water issue? When it does work is the water flow with good pressure for as long as you hold the lever?

When it flushes.....periodically....it flushes great...then it doesn't? Yes it is the only issue...all other water sources are perfect

You are placing water in the bowl before using it, right?

There is a screen in the fitting that the supply line hooks up too. I would take a look at it.

My nephew is an RV parts guy and he said to look at that screen too. I didn't know I had to put water in the bowl first

Water in the bowl before “dropping anchor” is optional IMO, the splash back can be...you know.

"I think what we have here is a failure to communicate".....
You should have enough water in the bottom to cover the flap that opens when flushed. That keeps the seal lubricated on the flap anh helps hold the smell from getting past that flap.
FILLING the bowl before use is a no no. After use, pull the handle (or push the foot pedal) just enough to add water and not open the flap. Then when you have sufficient water pull it the rest of the way to empty the bowl. This is for emptying #2. After Flushing releasing the handle should close the flap and add enough water to just cover it.

I always "fill the bowl about half full" before use. That helps cover the "contents" to keep the aroma "under water" and not "in the air"... Then, when I step on the foot pedal, the weight of the water aids in "moving everything down the tube" and the swirling water rinses the bowl walls. It also helps make "taking a dump (actually leaving one) closer to what one experiences on a home toilet"...
I experienced several "dry dumps" that resulted in smeared bowl walls and splashed shins before developing my "technique". Works for us, helps keep the smells down, and in the end <pun intended> evacuates the bowl after "human evacuation"... YMMV
I'd add that the LAST thing I do before towing is to press the foot pedal to remove all water from the bowl before towing. The "trailer sway" with a Dometic 310 (no rim toilet) is just enough to "slosh" the water onto the bathroom floor if the roads are slightly rough....
