Looking for different fifth wheel hitch

Just bought a 2016 gmc 2500hd without a puck system. I'm going to use a rail system and looking to replace my Reece 16k slider hitch with something different. Asking for some suggestions.

Are you going from a short box to a long box as to why you're getting rid of the slider? Are you looking for something lighter?

With our 2500 short box I opted for the Andersen hitch 3200 which mounts with standard rails. If you have a turn over goose neck ball, you could leverage the Andersen hitch that secures using it and save yourself mounting rails in the truck. Easy to remove the hitch when full bed access is needed. Also, the hitch can be orientation depending on SB or LB.

It would help if we knew if it’s a long bed or short bed.

I know you said you don't have the puck system, but I've had several trucks and fifth wheel hitches. Hands down, I would get the Andersen Ultimate hitch if you have a goose neck ball. My second favorite is the Pullrite Superglide.

I also used to have the Andersen 3200 for rails. Same concept as the Andersen Ultimate for the gooseneck ball. Light weight, offset connection point for more cab clearance and rated for 20k lbs. my new truck has the puck system so I switched to a pullrite 2600, didn’t want to deal with rails on the new truck.

I fixed the OP's quote!
If I were the OP, I would install the OEM puck system many have done it, then choices are wide open. Rails are now soooo old school.

Second choice would be a B&W turnover ball.

I second this!
With the turnover you could go with either the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch or the Reese Goosebox (the GB is what I'd get with my next 5er), both once removed or unhitched leave the bed clear.
I've had Reese & Husky 5th wheel hitches in the past & the last was the B&W Companion hitch which was by far, hands down, 110% better than the other two, would highly recommend.

The truck is a short bed 6.6. I've heard its costly to put a puck system in. I don't have a gooseneck.

You can purchase the parts as a kit from the dealer, and install yourself or pay someone to do it.

Our 20167 Ram 3500 came with it, I know the pucks for the 5th wheel hitch sit directly over the frame rails.

I recommend the Comfort Ride hitch. It's a bit pricey but it works very well. Eliminates chucking and with the cushioning system smooths out the ride. It also adjustable so you no longer need a slider for a short box. I have a 2010 Ram 2500 short box and have no problems it tight situations. Hope this helps

If you do the gooseneck style hitch, B&W turnover ball will be significantly less expensive than the factory puck system. Then I’d go with a Pullrite 2600 single point connection. Only weighs about 60 lbs and gains you about 7” of cab clearance placing your connection point at about the same point as a long bed truck. It’s similar concept to the Andersen Ultimate, but much smaller footprint.

Would go with b&w turn over ball and Reese goose box clean finish no large hitch in bed to deal with the goose box comes with air bag to soften up the stress on 5er frame some just op

I’m not that familiar with the Reese Goose Box as far as warranty. I’d check with Lippert and see what they say. I know the Reese is different from other Gooseneck type hitches and should alleviate the torque issues that those cause, but I’m not an engineer. I have seen Lippert refuse warranty claims due to hitches.

Reese “goosebox” does not affect the Lippert frame warranty. I have the email somewhere in my toolbox.

That’s in the same email:

Synopsis is Reese goosebox is the only aftermarket gooseneck style adapter that won’t automatically void warranty.

I was certain I had read that, but not certain enough to quote it!!
I would chose the Goosebox hands down over the Anderson, just my .02 cents!
