New Carlisles

Last minute decision to buy tires. My Maxxiss are 3 1/2 years old. I've been watching WalMarts price on Carlisle 235 80 16 HD. They've been priced at $77 for awhile. I'm thinking that's a real good price, and for how long? We are leaving for Richmond VA Thursday morning. If I'm doing it, I better get after it. Looked at Discount Tires website, no tires in Baytown or my side of Houston. I found 6 in Beaumont. Called them...will you match WalMart price? Sure. Are they new tires? Oh yeah 2017, we go through a lot of them. Hooked up and went. Uh no, they were like 42 week of 2016. Well I bought them anyway. Warranty starts when I bought them. Driving home I watched them on my Tire Trakker and they were running just above ambient. So far so good.

Good call on the Carilises. Can't beat that price.

Heading for Richmond...race time? I have an RV spot at the track campground I'm getting ready to put on Craigs List if you're interested.

Yes, heading to Richmond Thursday morning. I just sent you a PM. RIR called a few weeks ago and said we were on a waiting list for a site with hookups. Been so long I forgot I signed up for it. They said I could have North Laburnam site 2 for $270. We took it.
You not going?

Hmmm, didn't get your PM.

It's iffy if I can go or not at this point so I want to get rid of it instead of eating it like I have in the past. The races there have been so boring for the last several years I haven't missed it when I didnt go, and the past few times I went we didnt even go into the race, we sat out in the CG and watched it on the jumbotron and listened on the radio. All the fun people moved to the remote CG in lot J I think it is over behind the flea market. I kind of miss hanging out with friends I've met over the years but that's about it. Just came home from Martinsville and that is just such a more fun time, and better race. My spot is in lot F, just outside Turn 2. No hookups though.

The last race we did at RIR was when Harvick passed Junior on about the last lap, several years ago. That got the expected crowd reaction. We have stayed in Lot J a couple times. It's uh, interesting.
We've done 1 race at Martinsville. I love it and want to go back. Would like to do the Short Track Nationals at Bristol as well. But we have tickets to Eldora NASCAR Truck race in July and USAC 4 Crown and WOO sprints at Eldora in September. I may do that one alone in the cabover and combine it with some flyfishing in the Smokies. So much to do, so little time.

I haven't been to Richmond since 94, but loved the races there. IMO, it's unfortunate that NASCAR is going to so many 1.5 mile tracks, those are the ones I find boring. We just got back from the WOO race in Phoenix, that was good. Will probably hit the Phoenix NASCAR race in the fall, but the more races I go to, the more I find myself going back to my roots where dirt is for racing and asphalt is for getting there.

BTW, great price on the tires. I'm sure those Carlisle's will serve you well.

From Liberty to Charlotte I really like the Carlisles. Seem to run a bit cooler than the Maxxiss. Did well in heavy rain too.
We are "camping" at Charlotte Motor Speedway tonight. Looking out the back window at the dirt track. I might be able to get here for the final WOO sprint car race in November. Throw a Smokey Mtn fishing trip in with it.
Richmond is the wife's favorite. No hills to climb like Bristol. They can keep the 1.5 mile cookie cutter tracks.
Asphalt is for driving to the dirt track.

Not sure if they even would know what they will be getting. If I recall all the others were reporting numbers in the high forties of 2016, which puts you in Nov/Dec of 2016

I bought the 85's (LRF) for my Alpine from Walmart. All dated 5216. I think the worry of the older tires has passed.

I wouldn't worry about getting old HDs at the moment. When I called Carlisle a few weeks ago they told me Wmart had just bought "a lot" of HDs. The RHs, what is left of them, I might have second thoughts about.
