Anderson ultimate gen 3

This is probably not the fault of Anderson hitch but a freak accident…maybe it was a damaged hitch?..But Came across this video of a anderson hitch failing…think it was a gen 2 version and anderson has made a newer more beefed up version…i believe if you want to upgrade to the gen 3 you will get some kind of a discount but have to prove you destroyed the gen 1 or gen 2 version you already own…i could be wrong so check it out…i’ve been thinking of getting one to free up my bed

There have been very few Andersen hitch failures that I've seen (even videos) and of those I don't know if you can attribute it to an actual hitch failure. In the little excerpt they show of that failure at the beginning the first thing I would say - who would be throwing a DRV Mobile Suites 5th wheel on an Andersen??? The Mobile Suites 5th wheels are heaaavy and heaaavviier. I really like my Andersen but I also understand limitations regardless of advertising claims.

I wouldn't change the Andersen but it is also a limiting factor to me. Like trucks and SRW vs DRW, gas vs diesel, etc. when trying to "fit" the hitch to the trailer there are limitations in my mind. My trailer at 14k gvwr and running around 13k is about all I would want on an Andersen. Might go 15k but figure I would go with a B&W Companion or something along that line. As the guy notes, there's no telling what the hitches have been put through etc. But as always, to each his own and whatever makes a person feel safer is what they need to be doing.

Honestly, also take a look at a Gen Y Executive gooseneck hitch. They are built stout. Plus, you get a completely free bed in the truck when needed without taking any extra bits and pieces out. We had and used our B&W Companion on the turnover ball for 8 years with our Cougar and the Paradigm. But, there came a point when the DD, who would help me switch between the B&W and just the gooseneck when we needed the horse trailer, left for college. And I can’t lift the B&W out myself. So, we looked at a Gen Y, and I love it. We have about 8,000 miles on it so far. The B&W we had around 30,000 miles on.

I will look into that…If i keep this truck i’m gonna start driving it more and i’d like to have the bed clear…

Gooseball or Gen Y or possibly the anderson should free up the truck

I have an Andersen and it works great. But, if I could have a do-over I would go the route you are with a Goosebox or similar.

I just traded off a 18,000 pound Landmark with a Goosebox. I debated myself about going GenY. A Heartland/Landmark dealer advised against it.
I was right on the 4,000 pound pin weight limit for the Goosebox.
I wish I had gone with the GenY. No air bag to leak down or hinge pin to lubricate.
