Ideas/Suggestions for Backseat Truck Platform

I've searched the forum and could not find anything. I am looking for ideas of how people have DIY'd platforms in the backseat to accommodate their dogs.

I used a piece of wire closet shelving covered with "cheap felt automotive carpet liner (sold by the yard in rolls at WalMart for about $5 and zip tied to the shelving) to lay on the "folded down" rear seat, extending to the back of the front seats. I put the dog's food container (plastic tub with a lid) under the shelving to support the end closes to the front seats. Then I put a canvas "seat protector sling" over the shelving and the dog's bed on that.

I cut the shelving so it only covered about 2/3rd's of the back seat. That gave the dog some room to jump up into the truck rear floor, then step up onto the shelving.

Our beagles were happy to ride on their beds with the rear seat folded up so they had the entire floor to lay out on..

Max the golden retriever is a prima-donna and will not lay on his bed in the floor... He rides on the seat and will grudgingly allow our grandson to sit with him on special occasions..

Our 2016 Ram and DD 2004 both have a colt up seat and fold out flat platform, just throw her bed and blanket on it.

Thanks for all the responses and ideas. Here’s what I went with. Our doodle loves all the room she has now and her bed fits behind the driver’s seat.

Just need to ask the Ford and GM crew cab owners.
Is there not an option to for a fold flat platform in the crew cabs?
When our DD was looking for crew cab DRW to tow her horse trailers, she wanted a fold flat floor in the back seat. I thought we had looked at an early 2000 Ford with a fold flat platform in the back seat.
She ended up with a 2004 Ram 3500 SLT DRW with the 60/40 rear seat with same 60/40 fold flat platform. Our 2016 has the same feature.

The "fold flat platform" was available in the Superduty crewcabs until the 2011 model year. (I might be off a year, not absolutely sure) For some reason, when Ford introduced the "updated body style" they also did away with the platform. The old style platform will fit in the trucks up through 2016 model year, if you can find one in a junk yard. I looked for one when we bought out 2013, but all that I found were either bent, worn out or so rusty that I wouldn't want it in a "new truck"... So, I built my own.

That dual height is a pain in the butt. My wife ended up measuring and cutting a piece of cushion foam to fill the lower area. She sewed a sort of pillow sham out of black felt lined vinyl to cover it. We can now set both of our dog kennel cages - one facing each door - and they sit evenly.

My truck (2018 Ram) has the fold out platform (carpeted), and the seats fold up. I just used it this past weekend for a tent/kayak trip up in the Adirondacks.

When our dog travels with us, I usually just put a blanket on the back seat and he just lays down for the trips.

1000 denier nylon dog hammock cable clips to secure their harnesses to the seat belts.

Please for the safety of your dog, yourself and others use seatbelts and harnesses for your dogs.
