Got Attacked by Hail last night

We are at Lake Vermillion State Park near Sioux Falls. Last night around 7pm all hell broke loose, Thunder, Lightning, Wind and finally Hail. The Hailstorm lasted about 5 minutes and started slow but quickly it was like 100s of Rocks hitting the roof. There were some big chunks the picture isn't that good because it was still pouring and I didn't feel like getting wet. This morning I counted 9 dings on the hood of my F350 couldn't find any other damage.

Got in the truck to go to the store this morning. This greeted us. Got an appointment on the 2nd with "Safelite repair Safelite replace". You think it can be repaired.

Not in my book (repaired). Looks like a windshield replacement. Also, if you got 9 dings on the hood look at the rest of the truck VERY closely. A hailstorm hit us while driving and when I got home I thought I had about the same number of dings. Took it to a pro and it was about double because he knew what he was looking for/at and I could see them once he pointed them out. I would think the roof took some as well if not the bed rails.

Wow!! BTDT without all the damage. In “09 Grand Island Nebraska KOA. Mid afternoon it was HOT so we went swimming. Then did a couple loads of laundry and BAM, cold rain. Then all of a sudden hail and lightning, I moved the truck unde a tree so no hail damage. Felt like being in a popcorn popper for over 4 hours. My cat not happy

NOT Safelite Repair. They will replace the glass with their company made windshield, not your FOMOCO factory parts. BS, go somewhere else. Their glass does not have a good rep.

If Gorilla tape won't work and you don't have a roll of SCRIM tape laying around, then it's probably a new windshield...

On Ford's built after 2014, the OEM windshield has an acoustic material embedded in the laminate that reduces engine/road noise into the cab. I can't tell you that it's a "specific dB reduction" but I'd want an OEM windshield reinstalled in my truck, especially since the cost to me would be the same "deductible".

I believe the Acoustic windshield is a Ford exclusive that's not available in the aftermarket windshields.

Well time to do a nighttime inspection with a flashlight. Shine the light parallel to the body surface and dents will show up as shadows.

Updates, I called my insurance company the day before yesterday about the windshield I don't know about other states but in Florida there is a zero deductible on windshields. We were still in the Sioux Falls area and they wanted to schedule to replace it today, well we were supposed to leave yesterday heading to Wisconsin Dells so, they set me up for tomorrow there. They are coming to the campground to do it. To be honest I hadn't thought about OEM vs Aftermarket so I called em back yesterday to request OEM and said my truck is only 7 months old.. The person I talked to checked and said that it would be OEM because there was not an Aftermarket available yet for the 2021's. As for the dings I have checked and checked again (and checked at night with a flashlight) all I can find is the 9 dings. I have $500 deductible and from what I have been reading it won't cost me much more than that to get em fixed. Once I get an estimate I will decide whether or not to get insurance involved, they are always looking for a reason to raise rates.
Where we were staying Lake Vermilion State Park has East and West Campgrounds we were in the East. I talked to the Host and she said that the West side got hit real bad and most vehicles had some damage and on many it was pretty severe so, I guess I was kinda lucky.

I had mine repaired by the "paintless dent removal) process which I was leery of but they did an excellent job. As the guy told me, it's a good process unless the dings are just huge or in a body panel crease. Get that estimate but I'm thinking that you may be right as far as deductible vs what it would cost without filing a claim.

Check your insurance as they all differ but I had hail damage twice and it was "an act of God" and no deductible. however when our roof was hail damaged on the home the deductible was required.

Ice cubes

Try an ice cube on the dings when it's been in the sun and the metal is hot. Might work, might not, wont hurt to try.
