Camping in Texas

I’m looking for some nice campgrounds in either central or western Texas. I have a 40 foot fifth wheel.

What activities are you looking for?
Are you looking for full hookups or just 50amp and water?
Finally, what time of year?

For me what is W TX? It extends from the bottom of the panhandle to Big Bend. Central TX is also a very big place. I like all of it but all of it is not the same.

We like Fredericksburg a lot. Winery tours, old town shopping, good restaurants. We also like Kerrville, Marble Falls areas. Medina Lake also has great camping areas. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you have kids, the Jelly Stone in Kerrville is a nice park. Lots to see and do in San Antonio with some campgrounds nearby. Have fun and be safe!

They are 21 core of engineer parks in Texas nine of them are in South Central. They have water and electric and a dumpsite on the property. Like the OP mentioned what are you looking for?

Will wait to see if the OP returns; posted and last activity was a couple minutes later. Need a better idea of where the OP is looking to camp and what type amenities at the campground or local to the campground are important.

To be honest not really looking for a ton of activities. Just really looking for a really nice campground that possibly has nice big site. Someplace that will allow pets. Just a place to unwind not too far from home as we live in the Oklahoma City area. The time of year would be October.

Thanks everybody for all the reply. I realize I was sort of vague. I have a 40 foot fifth wheel with slides. I do want full hook up. Someplace that is pet friendly. I have camped at the KOA around San Antonio really enjoyed that. we have made several trips to Padre Island area. So if you would just draw a line straight across right below San Antonio and up I can go anywhere in that part of the state. Just looking for somewhere Within 6 hrs or so for a nice short trip. We live in Oklahoma City area.

The Vineyards at Grapevine is one of our favorites, and is certainly within your 6 hr radius of Oklahoma City, and it has big sites.

Maybe Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park near Fredericksburg.
Also there are several state parks in the area.

Haven't been there in several years. Thought they got hit hard by some flooding a few years back? If they are in working order that is one of the nicest places to "be" IMO. Heck, back in the late 70s when we lived in MF folks would line the sides of the gates on Wirtz dam fishing when the white bass were running - and it's right beside the RV park. Old memories......

Central TX is one of our favorite stomping grounds (West TX -- El Paso to Fort Stockton -- is more like motor-through).

We don't look for a lot of activities, just a clean, uncrowded base camp to explore the vicinity, with people who are easy to deal with.

We enjoy the Junction/Concan/Uvalde corridor (Pecan Valley RV Park on the Llano, Neals Lodges on the Frio), New Braunfels (Sun's Hill Country RV Resort), Boerne (Top of The Hill), and San Angelo (SA State Park).

Neals may or may not be able to handle your size rig, but the rest will.
