What does the yellow/white Tire & Loading info sticker on your driver's side door pillar state is your truck's cargo carrying capacity? Since about 22% of the 5th wheel's GVWR will come right off this figure, you will probably be overloaded just hooking up....without you, passengers, gear etc. even factored in.
If your F150 is equipped with the Heavy Duty Payload Package (HDPP), you might have a shot staying within your payload and axle limits if you can find a small traditional style 5th wheel with about an 8000 lb GVWR. The HDPP package will get you in the 2100-2500 lb range payload wise.
On the non-traditional side, there's always a Scamp.

Probably (a lot) smaller than you are thinking .......but they do make small 5ers !
This one that Scamp makes is sub 3000lbs . They are .......unique , thats for sure .

The F150 can "tow" a 42' toy hauler but it's unable to "carry" the weight of that toy hauler.
As mentioned post the yellow/white tag from the door jamb of YOUR truck, with that number members here will give a good numbers to go by.
Lately I've watched several U tube knuckleheads explaining that the numbers mean nothing & with a few upgrades to their 1/2 tons they can tow a good size 5er, DO NOT believe any of their bologne.

I've seen F150 payload ratings ranging from 1100 pounds to over 2500 pounds. I've also seen F250 payload ratings ranging from 1800 pounds to over 3500 pounds....
Each individual truck will have a different payload rating based on how it was built, what equipment it has and then, most important, what you put into the truck before you hitch a trailer to it....
Essentially, payload is nothing more than the difference between what the truck weighs and its GVWR. That "payload number" will change daily, depending on what's in the truck.....
So, the question should be: Does a fifth wheel exist that can be towed by a PROPERLY EQUIPPED half ton truck?... The answer is yes.... IF THE TRUCK IS PROPERLY EQUIPPED... If not, then it may not be able to tow any fifth wheel on the market, even the Scamp.... A "heavy DW" and 8 obese kids can make a significant dent in a 1700 pound payload, leaving nothing remaining for any trailer......

If you have more than 2200 pounds available payload and a light enough fifth wheel it Can be done (see my sig). NOTE: You're not taking a large family, just you and the better half as passengers and limiting what you carry in the truck also being mindful as to what is loaded in the trailer.

Depending on the capabilities of your EcoBoost, Keystone has a couple of floor plans that we have personally toured. They are quite nice and for their size feel very open and spacious.

Yep. He posted the question on 10/11 at 9:23 and signed off at 9:25 (two minutes later).
He has made a total of 20 posts since he joined the forum on 8/8, so over the last 2 months, he's been fairly active. Maybe he's just "camping without internet access" for a while .....

Yes...........just get one that is a safe margin below the truck's towing and payload capacity. One of our rv club members tows a fifth wheel trailer with a F150. Before he purchased the trailer he verified the trailer weight and truck towing and payload capacities would be within a safe margin.

I had the 97 Jayco 253, just under 26 ft. TV was a 1995 1/2 ton GMC, of course I don't know any of the specs of the truck. Will say long or big hills were a slow down of 5 mph. Nice trailer, had it for 19 years. Later we had a 1999 1/2 ton Chevy, had more towing power than the GMC.

I have a 2010 Keystone Laredo 245rl it is well within the half ton towing. it's about 7k lbs and won't exceed the half ton pin weight limits of a half ton. There are many others. but watch pin weight as well as trailer weight.

Having only had TTs that were bumper pull, what are advantages of a 5th? From a casual observation it seems you have to have a whole lot more truck to pull one, and that is not an insignificant price difference. There are many TTs that can be safely pulled by a 1/2 ton, so you narrow yourself down by trying to find a 5er that the same truck could haul, so I wonder, why? There must be advantages that I just cannot see? And as long as I am wondering....How come diesels that are new have to buy an additive to put in the tank? (DEF?? Might have the initals wrong) If the diesels have to have it why isn't it mixed into the fuel you have to buy? That did not used to be the case. This seems to be a new phenominom.

DEF or Diesel Exhaust Fluid... is just that. Its urea that gets injected into a particulate filter similar to a catalytic converter. It does not mix with the fuel system in any way. Its sole purpose is to reduce emissions.... I bet that discussion will go down the same path as "payloads"

Well Oak, count me in your corner until last year. I can tell you why WE did but it won't pertain to everyone. It basically hinged around the time spent in the RV.
We both loved a bumper pull and the things it afforded....including a smaller TV and had one for many years but then..... We started traveling and staying out for lengthier times - months. At about 3 mos. I would start feeling sort of "cramped" or claustrophobic. The trailer we had when we started long trips was very nice and had that dark wood decor I used to love. After a few months it starts feeling like a tunnel and sort of cramped. DW said she felt that closed in feeling but mainly because she was ready to go home to a full size house. Then....
On those long trips one of the things you have to do is laundry. All the time, somewhere. RV park laundromats are hit and miss; might be the cleanest thing you've ever been in with new machines OR the folks dump everything that's been sitting in the yard, in the doghouse etc. in there and they are a dismal mess. A constant you could count on seemingly was waiting....and waiting OR you could go at midnight. That got to be a REAL PITA. Now the 5th wheel looked better.
I am set on how big of a truck I will buy so that dictates what I can have in a fiver. DW wanted a stackable washer and dryer; I wanted the much higher ceiling and brighter colors to eliminate the "tunnel" feel. With the 5th mission accomplished. So there are some situations where the attributes of a 5th wheel come into play. If we still took shorter trips (month or so) we would still have a 38' bumper pull and be happy, but, we're happy now too.

Best style 5th wheel. Miss our Kit like that. Easy to pull.
I look at the ones now and no wonder you have to have a diesel with the noses.
