Odd taste in water

On my third trailer and have never had this problem before. Have sanitized my freshwater tank, with normal bleach/flush/flush several times, four or five times and no matter what I do I get what can only be described as a 'plasticy' taste in the water. Even when on city water it tastes the same. I run all water, whether tank or city, through a filter.

I can only presume that the taste comes from the piping.

Any suggestions? Baking soda? Vinegar? Camco fresh taste product?

Have been doing this for 16 years and have never had this before.

Thanks!

When you sanitize, do you run the bleach water into all the pipes, then let the bleach water sit in the pipes for a couple hours (some would say 4hrs)? Are you using 1/4 cup of bleach per 20 gallon of fresh water system? For my 60 gal tank that would be 3/4cup, but I usually use 1cup.

Can't say I've ever had a plastic taste in the water. Funny tasting water all over the country, but not a plastic taste.

Maybe a new fresh water fill hose is in order?

Yes, I do all that. In fact I let the bleach water sit for about 8 hours before flushing and doing it again twice more. Cant be the freshwater fill hose as it is the same when using the city water connection.

Are you using a different hose to fill? Only time I get a plastic or rubber taste is when I use a non potable water hose.

The "common link" between the way you use "tank water" and "city water" is the supply hose and the filter. Sometimes, a "fresh water certified hose" will start to break down and the "plastic liner" in the hose will begin to leach "plasticy taste" into the water running through the hose.... If you have a spare hose, just swap them out, change the filter element in your filter canister and see if the taste improves after the system has enough water through it to "clear the lines"....

I've had more than one "white hose with blue stripes" start tasting funny after a couple of years.

Well, my freshwater hose is only 6 months old and my filter is as well. Always used drinking safe hoses.

It baffles me.

Get a pitcher of water directly from the faucet and taste it. Then directly from the hose.. process of elimination 😁

If it was the cheap rv hose from Walmart then that's most likely the issue.
I found the blue Never Kink 5/8" hose was the best.

I have a very good sense of taste and smell and I always had a problem with water tasting like plastic with the white/blue water hoses - multiple ones. When it got hot it would just get worse. The little blue filters from Walmart just didn't do anything. Tried a larger canister on that sat in a holder under the trailer; much better but at times could still get a little "background" flavor. Dual canisters and it seems the issue is gone. I figure there is a better water hose out there somewhere that would have eliminated it without all the filters but I wanted the extra filtration anyway since there is no telling what you will get into running around to different RV parks.

I think it must be hose related. However I do have both a white and blue hose. Neither from Walmart! Time to do some experiments. I am currently re-sanitizing the tank in order to start from scratch.

We use the Kohree 25FT RV Water Hose, 5/8'' Premium RV Drinking Water Hose Heavy Duty, Lightweight and Flexible Construction Water Hose for Garden, Camping - Blue simply because that's what the hardware store had in 25'. No taste, period! We also have a built-in double canister filter system in the basement. Our fresh water tank has never been wet so I can't speak to that.

If you don't mind, which "blue water hose"? Just bought one based on above recommendations and still in the box. If it's what caused your problems I'll send it right back.

Can’t remember the name but it is of those non kink ‘collapsible’ hoses that I had researched as for drinking water and most reviews said that it did not give a taste. Well, they were wrong. If I can remember the name I will post it! Back using the good old white hose from Camping World!

I still have/use my Never Kink brand 5/8" i.d. hoses that I bought over 10 years ago. While the plastic grips on the female ends are starting to show some wear the hoses performe like new. Don’t know if they are currently made that durable/dependable nowadays or not.

I've only ever used the Camco white drinking water hoses. My first one lasted a couple years but on one trip we started getting a very strong plastic/vinyl taste to the water. It was one of the few times we've ever stayed on an asphalt paved site, and it was in full sun with the hookups on the sun-facing side of the camper in mid July. I figure the hose just got baked too hard and gave up the ghost. Junked it for a new white drinking water hose and haven't had another issue. I do try to keep as much of the hose as possible under the camper out of the sun whenever possible.
