Thanks. I have the RV guy coming Oct 14 so we'll see what happens. I hope we can get it to move but if you watch my video above the gearbox will not move the slide on its own.

I'll keep you posted. It's not been a good couple of weeks as I just paid $100 to the propane company to find out my shop heater needs to be replaced and have been racking up the vet bill for hospice care of my pup .

The gearbox for the slide-out is a weak link, the gearbox was re-designed to beef up the weak part in 2017. Make sure you order it with the new wall bracket as the pre 2017 wall bracket does not fit the re-designed gear box. I also ordered a new driveshaft with the new gearbox and bracket as it was only $4 more.

All told I fixed it myself for $116 and about 6 hours, but that was learning all about it and doing it for the first time, but now I could probably do it in 3.

Make sure that the gearbox you get has a serial number that starts with 17, 18, 19, 20, or 21.

Now to get to it required 3 people. One person pushing the button and one person on each end of the slide inside pushing (HARD) while the out switch is operated.

I recommend going 3/4 of the way out before performing the repair.

This is the video I used to figure this out.

I waited 10 days for the gearbox to come in, and then it was another 2 after that when I was off and could do the work. The mobil RV tech I called returned my call 3 days after I was done

Let me know if I can help more.

I wonder if one can just replace the gear box housing ???

thus not messing with all teh cables.....

No the gearbox housing can not be replaced independently.

Watching the video I linked the cables are not that scary. Some white out to mark the bolt length and chain position, and I also used a micrometer and measured and recorded the thread lengths, and took a lot of pictures and notes before I started taking things apart.

It honestly took me longer to put all the trim back together than it took me to change out the gearbox and bracket, and return all the cables to their starting point.

I did watch your video and that was exactly what mine was doing. With my father and I shoving on each side of the slide and my mother operating the switch, we were able to push it out a bit at a time, where then the gearbox would catch and help a bit, when it started skipping again, we would back it up slightly
and then hit the out button again and shove again.

You only have to get it out 1/2 to 3/4 of the way to be able to reach everything you need to reach.

I am sorry about your pup, and keep us posted.

I also bought a spare gearbox to keep on hand (which effectively means that I'll never have this problem again)

RV guy came today after calling me last night to confirm (from his car) but when he got home found out that the part wasn't delivered but he is close so he kept his appointment anyway.

He confirmed that the motor and shaft were good and that it was indeed the gear box and that the cables looked OK though in need of adjustment.

Even though he wasn't able to work on it today I'm glad he was able to confirm that he could do the work and which part was bad.

As long as it's done in time for me to winterize

It's fixed, was just the gearbox. The replacement is of the new design.

He initially struggled a bit reaching in to disconnect the chains but once that was done we were able to push the slide out about 8" which made the job much easier. Took under 2 hours.

Most excellent!!! I’ll have to make a mental note about the updated gearbox.

Total cost was $200+125 parts. Pretty reasonable I think
