Surprised some of you Houston area members haven't mentioned the Freeport LNG plant blowing up and offline for a number of weeks. It supplies a about 20 percent of US LNG and exports a bunch to Europe. Plant is one of the largest in the world by what I read.

If the fuel prices get much higher I might look into renting a RV pad somewhere we would like to enjoy going to. That's is the opposite of what I have done in the past but it is a thought.

Stopped at a T/A near Binghamton, NY the other day with the TSD Card it was $5.65 got a little over 24 gallons of diesel and 4 gallons of DEF was $168. DEF was $4.62. Diesel everywhere else around there was over $6.00 a gallon.

It was reported in today's newspaper that there are rolling shortages of diesel here in PA. To me, it seems more like bulk purchases are affected, but I could be wrong?

All fuel in PA costs more than here in MD. Our oldest daughter and her family live a few miles from the MD/PA line and we visit them regularly. There's a fuel station right at the line in MD and 1/2 mile down the road one in PA. The price spread varies I guess due to seasonal blend changes but PA is always significantly higher.
I'm certainly not defending the "big oil companies" but with individual states mandating specific blends the refineries must be like short order cooks. I probably don't have a good understanding of the process but for the last 50 years or so I've hear the occasional shortages and price increases blamed on "the change over from winter blend to summer blend" or the opposite.
I never read up on it because there's absolutly nothing I can do about it. There are some thing within our reasonable control. Most everyone can grow some food, you can turn lights off and heat with or supplement your heating with wood (depending on where you live) etc. With gas/diesel the options currently available for consumers are nonexistant with deisel and not economically viable for gasoline. If you can't afford the cost of the EV then it's not a viable option. If there's no public transportation available where you live then the you are forced to "pay the ransom" to get the fuel.

If I remember correctly, PA has the third highest fuel tax in the nation. It adds about .60/gallon at the pump. So that's more insult to injury. Our governor talked about suspending the tax during the summer months, but that never went anywhere.

Our roads certainly make the tax worthwhile ( being facetious ) we often use 81 heading north out of MD you cross the state line read the sign that states PA is a commiewealth ( meaning if you obtain any wealth the state can and will confiscate it ) then hit a pothole that I'm fairly certain contains several small automobiles

Returning from our daughter's house in Oxford, PA yesterday I told my DW that they should put up a sign at the state line that reads "Welcome to Ghana (or any other third world country name) "Please drive carefully and try to avoid the large craters". The sign could be double sided as it doesn't seem to make a difference what state you are leaving or entering. They all look like the "Highway of Death" (Highway 80,between Kuwait and Iraq) after the Gulf War.

I'll oblige ya...I've never put eyes on that plant, but if it's the biggest, it's a BIG plant. From the Houston TV news I couldn't tell if there was any significant damage. Of course the TV news producers just showed a video of a fire hose spraying water somewhere. Could have been stock footage and wouldn't have made any difference. They never got a plant official to make a definitive statement. But being the news junkie that I am, I'm convinced the reporters and anchors are "inside the loop", no socks, and only jog in the park and walk the dog for sport type folks. They couldn't identify a LNG plant from a petunia plant.
They were stumbling all over themselves pronouncing Quintana Beach correctly so I'm pretty sure they have never been in the hinterlands where the plant is located.
edit add...That plant is right at the Quintana Jetty where we used to launch to fish offshore. Looking at Google satellite the area has grown a lot since I've been there.

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but:
Regular is $4.699 in Raleigh. I had a "pleasant surprise" and found regular for $4.379 at a Sheetz station in Apex. We were out that way to visit a friend and just couldn't pass up such a great buy !!!!
Like I said, I NEVER thought I'd be happy to find gas for $4.37 a gallon, but here we are: "living the dream"

I get excited when I find diesel $0.30+ cheaper then any of the nearby stations. Even if it is twice as much as I was paying last year.

Regardless of your financial situation this period in time will affect something in your lifestyle. Even if you can afford it (whatever IT may be) you may not be able to access IT.
Some of you know that my wife and I are truck drivers. Yes, the price at the pump is hurting everyone (that I know of) as we just put 166 gallons of fuel in the twin 150 gallon tanks and paid $973 for it (thankful we are company drivers and that money is not our expense). But MANY of the independent drivers and owner operators are shutting down, unable to meet the cost of doing business to run their trucks. In turn this puts additional strain on the already challenged industry that struggles to retain GOOD drivers. There will be shortages in the near future. Whether it be fuel or food or parts, we will all feel it sooner than later.
We are SOOOO glad we steered away from owning our own truck about three years ago when it seemed lucrative. I know owner operators that have recently sold their trucks to become company drivers because the expense has become unbearable. We are very fortunate that we are employed by a company that is recession proof and money is really not a concern as they are backed by a multibillion dollar healthcare company. But there are concerns that the supply chain can keep us moving with fuel, DEF and parts for our trucks. We have already had issues getting such items as fuel filters and oil for our trucks. Several vendors had empty shelves a few months ago when we tried to get an oil change and we had to be routed to our terminal to get it done. They buy in bulk and so far are staying ahead of the game.
I have a feeling that this may turn into a bigger concern than just deciding whether or not we can afford to take a summer camping trip as there appears to be no end in sight of our current situation.

Just watching our forecast....10 days from now the temps are suppose to fall off from 105F to 97F with a 30% chance of rain. Bring it!!!
