Charcoal and plastic containers just don't seem to mix. Took DS and his girlfriend to a lake house and cooked steaks. After dinner the girlfriend was helping "clean up" while I was doing other stuff. The place had a nice, large plastic trash container with rollers on it and when I went out later I saw smoke billowing from it. The girlfriend, bright thing that she was, had taken all the smoldering coals and threw them in the trash bin. Not only was it smoldering but the side had melted out. Needless to say my irrepressible "happy side" came right out. And I agree, that smell would give steak, or anything else, an "off" taste.!

At least use a can of sterno instead, easier clean up.

The metal propane tank would not taste very good either. I hope your steaks are grass feed without using weed killer or fertilizer too.

Now THAT is flavor! Along those same lines, I gave up eating tuna after there was a big push to make it “dolphin safe”. Tuna just didn’t seem to taste as good after that.

You're supposed to take the wrapper off the steak before cooking it on the grill!
