Incandescent bulbs will generate some heat. Your furnace isn’t working?

Oh boy!!! You jumped into the deep freeze! I went to SDSU in Brookings back in the late 70s. We had a December that the highs were below 0°F and the lows were in the -30°F or lower. And, of course, the wind never stops there.

Just general advice: use you big heater for heat as it also blows hot air in your holds. Put an incandescent light burning in the hold, it provides heat. If you are stationary for awhile rig up some type of underpinning.

Be VERY careful using stove burners for comfort heat.

You should use your propane furnace. It is designed to direct heat down into the holds.
Using stove burners carries a risk of asphyxiation. Be careful.

His furnace doesn’t work. We are trying to figure it out.

Ok, missed that. Can be a real challenge in SD.

Usen stove burners for heat is very dangerous. Firts the obvious. It's an open flame. Anything near enough could ignite. It's designed to be used with a pan on top which brings us to the not so obvious. The flame can oveheat the metal grate and without a pan or pot setting on it. While not desirable the oven is a better option.

Dave, I'm not sure how you got to Sioux Falls with a travel trailer, but what you are attempting borders on the virtual impossible. If the temperatures were to reach -25 degrees and windy (not unusual) you simply will NOT keep that water from freezing, heated hose or not. And the inside of the RV will be suitable for hanging a side of beef.
Once your furnace does return to service, when the temps drop to zero it will not turn off (cycle) and your propane use will go up exponentially. You will need a minimum of three electric heaters, and I recommend running them from
the 20 amp side of your power pedestal rather than your 30 amp dedicated using heavy extension cords, or from the 50 amp outlet using a dog bone adapter.
I'm afraid you're in for a long, cold winter if mother nature isn't your friend.

I live in Rapid City, SD. Winters are long here too. I see folks that winter over here go and buy the 100lb propane tanks and use those for heating instead of the smaller ones. Wrap your lines with heated tape if you can. Good luck!

That's one of the reasons we leave NY in the fall and don't come back till spring. Of course there are other reasons to leave NY...

Anyway, I can't imagine staying all winter in SD, brutal.

Sorry about your frozen pipes. I’m thawing a friends class B out in my shop right now. Wish I was there to help.
If you happen to have the inCommand system. Take a hair dryer if your wife has one and bring the temperature up by blowing directly on the thermostat. Sounds funny but it worked for me when I first picked up my 2019. Had to put an ice pack on the thermostat this summer to drop the temperature so the air conditioner would kick on.
It’s worth a try unless you know what’s wrong.

OP hasn't logged onto the site since 12/28. May not be seeing any of the advice offered since that time.
