2020 Alpine Water Pump

2020 Alpine 3400RS here. When using fresh water tank we leave the water pump on. The valve is at the “normal use” position, not “fill” position. Water pump kicks on all day and all night without using faucets. We can hear it clearly inside and outside, whining and surging. Runs about every 5 to 10 minutes for 1 to 2 minutes per cycle. Water pressure is fine. Just seems to choke on a lot of air throughout use. New to this so just checking with the experienced to see if this is all normal. Thanks.

You either have a leak in the plumbing or the little check valve in the pump is not holding pressure.

If the water pump runs all the time and your getting lots of air, my first thought would be the winterizing valve isn’t shut. The position of the valve at the city water connection shouldn’t have any effect.

I would agree with everything said but add one thing. Did you bleed all of the air out of the system before turning on the pump? You need to open all of the faucets, hot and cold, inside and out until a good steady stream of water flows with no "spurting" of air. It will take a few min for the water heater to fill so don't be surprised if it takes several min.

Air is compressible and water is not. Any air in the lines can cause the pump to cycle. Also check the water heater pop off valve and make sure it's not leaking.

Clear out the driver side basement and remove rear access panel and water pump along with water panel connections are all right there. Check for any evidence of leaks at the valve and water pump connection fittings.

Also if this is on demand water heater check around it to make sure a fitting using leaking

Water pump made new surging noise and pressure diminished. Turn it off for awhile. When turned back on it ran very quiet with trickle at faucets and water was discharging from tube outside.

I don't know what the gray hose is. Do you know if that's fresh water tank vent line? I don't know what king of "surging noise" you heard but I'm guessing you have a water pump issue. Call the dealer, it should be under warranty

Those lines are probably the low point drain lines or the drain line for the demand water heater.

I see from your photo that you have two low point drain valves at the bottom of your convenience center, but I can't tell if they are open or closed. Check to make sure they are closed and no water is flowing out of them (below the trailer)

My guess is that the gray hose with water flowing is the water heater drain. If you remove that cover, is there a drain valve that's open which should be closed ???

Kurt&julie it appears are you connected to city water. If so you should not need to turn on the water pump. It looks like the check valve in the water pump may be allowing water to leak into the fresh water tank and over flowing it.
Let's sort that out and then see if we can determine why you have no pressure. Your valves look correct (as best I can tell.)

I’d open the service on your on demand water heater and check the drain valve knob... also if the freeze protection valve failed there is a needle valve inside service panel that you can close to bypass the freeze protection valve
