Well, having mentioned your new camper and the tow vehicle, I suspect you will be in for a visit from the weight police! I hope you enjoy your new camper and since it is a bunker, hope your kids don't drive you nuts while camping. Best of luck!

Welcome to the forum

Congrats on your new purchase. I am a member of the weight police, but I’ll wait for another “deputy” to crunch the numbers to see if your overloaded.

I can tell you, there is a sticker on the drivers door that tells you how much weight you can legally carry. I suspect your near or over that rating.

From Keystone website (https://www.keystonerv.com/travel-tr...ravel-trailer/) trailer GVWR is 7,620. Tongue weight based on 13% would be 7,620 X .13 = 990.6 lbs. Add another 120 lbs for a good weight distributing hitch and your at roughly 1,100 lbs.

So take that number off the yellow and white door post stickers that says "Total weight of all cargo and passengers not to exceed xxx lbs." Take that xxx lbs number and subtract the 1,100 lbs, and subtract the weight of everyone in the truck (including the dog), subtract the weight of everything else that you put in the truck that was not on it from the factory such as anything the dealer installed, mud flaps, running boards, bed liner, bed cover, tool box, tools, floor mats, phone chargers, all the "stuff" in the center console and glove box, firewood, generator, gas can, anything you throw in the bed of the truck.

If that number goes negative you're over loaded.

Hello, I'm Sergeant Joe Friday........welcome to the forum!!

Looks like the numbers have been touched upon; just look at that yellow/white sticker on the driver door to get the payload number to make sure you will be OK. After that, go have some fun in that new trailer!

Chuckster57 I'll be close. 1844lbs allowed. I figure 900 tongue weight, 120 hitch, 700 passengers. Leaves about 100lbs of gear/misc. What happens from the weight police when you are over?

Nothing happens, no tickets will be issued, just so you are aware & be extra cautious while towing with family onboard.
The 100lb cushion you've calculated will disappear in a flash. Hauling 10 gallons of water in the fresh water tank & it's gone, now everyone or everything you add to the vehicle or RV puts you in an overloaded situation.

Thanks travelin texans. But adding to fresh water tank isn't going to add to my vehicle weight limit but adds to my gross combined vehicle weight which I will be under by like 3000lbs. Right?

If your fresh water tank is in front of or on the two axles then it will add tongue weight. You can take that to the bank. If it is behind the two axles then it will not. As pointed out, you are right on the border with the cargo weight figure. Only the CAT scale will tell you the truth. Give it a try.

Adding to the fresh water tank adds to the weight of the trailer which adds to the weight of the hitch which then subtracts from your payload generally. Just figure anything in the trailer is going to equate to additional weight on your truck.

I'll just tell from personal experience that you're trying to slice that onion so thin (weight) that you will be taking the ends off your fingers. If you have 700 lbs. of people, those people require stuff. BTDT I'll just tell you that running down the road with 700lbs. of family (with us it was about 300 for 2) and you are overweight; which you will be no matter what you think with a 100 lb. cushion with all the "folks" empty, if you are like me and others, you will squirm every time anything, literally anything, makes that inadequate tv "sqiggle" for any reason because it will all be on you. Just something to think about.

There's already others that have answered this question so I won't.
Unfortunately you are not the only one that's fell for the truck manufacturers inflated tow ratings &/or RV dealers that don't have a clue about the towing ANYTHING. Seems there's a new RV owner on here daily that are finding out the hard way they got too much rv with too little truck.

Operating within a 100 lb margin is walking a tightrope with your safety. Leave the highwire act to Nik Wallenda. Be honest with yourself and face the fact that your tow vehicle just isn't up to the demand of the task.

Well, I am almost afraid to say anything because I am new also, I thought I bought in April but looked at my papers June 16th. Lol Anyway enjoy your camper and your truck, I am in the same boat with a 2016 3.5 ecoboost and a Passport 2950bh. Maybe we can get a deal if we buy two trucks together. 😆

Papa of 7, The OP hasn't been back on the site for five days. I suspect that the bad news on his payload issue may have soured him. This song has been played way too many times with new owners finding out their truck loan balance is a lot heavier than their payload capacity.
