Even the slightest amount of wind (or even a breeze) will suck a huge amount of heat away. I've found about the only thing you can do is try to shield the burner area better. You can try mods to increase heat output but that will only help until the wind increases 2 mph more.

Are you talking about the grill, or the burners? The burners don't seem bad on my 291, but the grill definitely sucks. I replaced mine with "Camco 57305 Olympian RV 5500 Stainless Steel RV Grill" and it works much better. It also stores alot better too. Got it for $180 off of amazon. Anyone interested in buying my old grill?

Just a thought: are you sure you're getting enough gas to the burner?

I ask because our bbq grill was working great for the first year. Last time we took it out, we got minimal flame, and turning the burner knob from "min" to "max" did nothing to increase the flame. I spent about 2hrs of swapping bottles, taking apart the hose and blowing it out, reaming it with a hangar, etc, and taking the grill apart and cleaning all orifices/tubes/parts to no avail. I then decided the only thing left is either the gas delivery system (the RV plumbing), or the regulator (burner knob) on the grill itself. I decided to take the regulator apart, and what-do-you-know, I found a tiny bug trapped in the output jet of the regulator. Removed bug, put it all back together and it worked just fine.

If you're handy and not afraid to take things apart, a little investigation might save some $$.

Hope this helps.

I think i got a solution ...what i did was drill out the orfice about .10 thousands of a inch.i just tried it and it helped alot with the flame and getting a whole bunch hotter.I will keep you updated we will be using it this weekend /10/15/11 my hope is that it works like it should.

Wow .100 is a big change for a gas orfice. Glad it worked but be careful because if the real problem gets corrected somehow, you will get too much gas to air mixture and a large possibly dangerous gas flow. What is the BTU listing for your grill? Orifice size is determined by using 11"wc (for LP gas) plus BTU output of the burner. On the chart in the link find the 11"WC row on the right and then match that to BTU and you will see what size the orifice should be. http://www.joppaglass.com/burner/lowp_chrt.html

For a .098 size hole = 67095 BTU.

Howdy All;

10/1000th of an inch is written out as;

0.01"

it equals 1/100th of an inch

1/10,000 would be 0.0001"

it equals a very small, wee bitty, tiny whatever.

Solely for the sake of clarity. Not to start any arguments and get us on the same wavelength.

Ya'll camp Safe...

My Outback came with the drop down door on the curb side that had a small two burner cooktop and a small sink. The stove was less functional than a Coleman stove and the sink didn't have a drain. There was a connection for hot and cold water. Go figure. I took all of the stuff off that door, sold it on Craigslist and used the space to store a CampChef Weekender. The drop down door makes a great work table while I'm cookingThat stove is the best $119 I ever spent, two 30K BTU burners that can fry a pan of fish before a cat can you know what. I took the regulator off of it and installed a quick connect so I can run either it or the Baby Q from the low pressure quick connect on the side of the trailer. With the number of good camp stoves and grills on the market, there's no reason to fret with one that won't do the job.
