Homemade Bed Hatch Support

Couldn't get any answers from hatch-lift so I made my own bed hatch support from stuff I had laying around. An old metal broom handle, broom clip, and a couple bolts. I think it took about an hour and works great.

Great fix ! We've got a gas cylinder on ours but when we put the memory foam topper on (they are heavy) it was too heavy for the cylinder. Might have to copy your fix. Nicely done.

BulletOwner1: you can get stronger gas struts.

Too true, but not for the price of a used broom handle .

You may not need a stronger strut. Try moving the lower mounting point so the strut is more vertical when the bed is up. This will provide more leverage. It worked for me! (It is also mentioned in the BedLiftKit.com installation instructions.)

Thanks, I'll look into it.

Awesome. My DH thought about doing something similar, but we ended up with the gas cylinders. The cylinders he installed are so strong, that we had to put a latch in to keep the bed locked down.
