remodel on 2004 Cougar

We have removed the dinette, couch & chairs that came with our 2004 Cougar. We discovered an outlet on the back end of the slide that was covered with a solid plate. Behind the solid plate it appears the wiring is there for another outlet. My questions are -- Is that really just another outlet and can we just buy another box & wire it in? Can you buy boxes that will fit in the wall at Home Depot or do we need to go to a dealer for that. Is it normal to have outlets on both ends of the slide, one wired in and one not wired in? We are replacing the dinette with a free standing table & chairs. We have ordered a new sleeper sofa and two new recliners. Obviously we love our 5th wheel and use it frequently! Thanks for any help

First I would take off the plate and see if the wires are live. If they are, is it 120AC or 12 DC? If it's AC, the a surface mount outlet box and a duplex outlet would be all you'd need. If it's not live, (and it may not be) you'd have to trace the wiring under the slide and see if it's hooked up to the main coach. It may be that the slide was used in two different models, one had the dinette in front, the other had the dinette in back and the "other end" was the live, connected outlet. Often times things are built for more than one application and not all the components are used in all the applications. If it's connected, you're good to do, if not, you may be able to find the other end and see what's needed to connect it to the coach wiring.

Thumbs up Love it!

This looks like a new model! Inspiring and nice to see an older model receive TLC and remain on the road. I hope to do the same with ours when we get to this point. Super great job!!
