Hot Wheel

On the way home from picking up our new tt, we stopped to have bite to eat. I make it a habit to check hubs on every stop. I had one wheel that was too hot to touch. I mean the whole wheel. I called service mgr and told me I had to bring it back but couldn't look at it today. They are hour and half away from my home. I decided to bring it to a trailer sales and service store only a few miles away. They were also concerned about the amount of heat generated from the wheel and said they will check it out. I emailed the dealer and explained I was very uncomfortable about returning the trailer back to them as it was 1 1/2 away. Here is the kicker...he said that they probably won't cover it under warranty because I didn't take it to a Keystone dealer. B.S. Not real happy

When talking to them again be sure to say that your concern was for safety not convenience. ... "I was afraid it might catch fire." .... "If I lost a wheel someone could have been injured." .... "Will you (the dealer) assume liability for further damages if I tow it back?" .... "Shouldn't you (the dealer) have noticed this problem while doing dealer prep that Keystone pays you to do?" ... I think you get the picture but be sure the emphasis is on safety. And document everything with photos.
Also .. The axle assemblies are purchased complete from their manufacturer. If you get no satisfaction from Keystone you can see if they will stand behind their product.

Also you can tell them you are going to write to trailer life magazine an explain the issue to them. I have read a lot of stories in their mag of where problems like this were taken care of once they knew they were being publish in print. Good luck.

Sounds to me like the brake on that wheel was adjusted too tight.

Enough heat and the grease could have caught fire and up she goes. Definitely a safety hazard to you and everyone else on the highway.

Thanks Hank,

I totally agree with what you are saying...I don't know what the service mgr was thinking when he asked me to bring it back. He was very young and little experience I assume. Hot wheel is a lot different than say a warm refrigerator.
