Exterior Door Holders

We just purchased a 2009 Fuzion 302. It is a terrific rig. The bad thing about it is the plastic t-style door holders for two of the exterior cargo doors. One is broken and I expect the other is prone to break.

I am going to replace them with metal holders. My question is, does anyone know what the substance is between the handle hardware and the wall? It looks and feels like plumbers putty. Thanks!

If it's gray and looks & feels like plumber's putty, it is most likely butyl caulking which is commonly used around windows and other exterior panels and attachments. It comes in rolls of tape and can be purchased at most any RV supply place.

I was just wondering about this for my camper! I wasn't sure if they made those little "T" hooks in metal or not. Where did you get yours at, the dealer?

Do a google search on rv cargo door holders and then click on Images near the top of the page. You'll get hundreds of pics of all different types, and they're both plastic and metal.

The parts counter at most RV dealers will have them or can get them for you. There's also lots of internet sources and places like Ebay and Amazon, too.

The butyl caulk in tape form is called putty tape. Be sure to purchase the butyl type. Again, same sources.

Cool. I never even thought about a metal "T" thingy. The door coming off of the master bedroom open up, but if the window beside the door is open they could hit. Now it has the plastic t holder. Every time I look at it I think, yep, that's going to be a problem. Now I have a fix before the problem! Thanks!!

Thank you all for the information on the butyl caulk. I am on the lookout for some.

I ordered the door holders from rvwholesalers (hope it's OK to mention by name). I am sure there are other places to get them.

You can get the butyl putty tape from any RV parts counter, any RV online source, Ebay, etc. The butyl caulk is in the caulk and paint aisle of your local home improvement center or hardware store.

I prefer the putty tape because it doesn't harden and keeps a long time. Caulk in a tube is usually way too much stuff for the typical RV job.
