Check this out!

We were visiting with the Daughter and Gbaby over the weekend, (post to come) and this was late getting out of our site, so they moved us to another. Honda Pilot towing camper around 16 ft box (ours is 177 @ 3400# dry) no sway or wdh and I saw them load the camper with at least 500 #'s of tubs to make room for their 1 lab, 1 pit, and one rat dog inside the car. They humans each weighed over 200 pounds.....

So damn rude the left at 2 pm, 2 hours after checkout

Having a hard time following what you are attempting to convey. The 500 # of tubs is a big part of the issue. Now as I understand it, they unloaded their TV to make room for dogs and put the stuff they unloaded into their camper. You also mentioned they packed up late. I have packed out a bit late a few times; doesn't look like the campground is crowded and they were well away from you. What should I be figuring out from your post?

I just thought a Honda Pilot pulling a 3000# + camper, with 500 + pounds of stuff inside the camper and 500# in the tow vehicle was just a little much......

Don't know about the tow vehicle, I quit worrying about that with other people. It's just too frustrating. If the tow vehicle is not adequate, the transmission or the engine will fail, or else an axle will break and then they'll be off the road. I've learned, in life and death, the only person I can control is "me." Some folks just have to learn things the hard way. When "those" types of "rigs" attempt to pass me on the Interstate, driving 15 to 20 miles faster than the posted speed limit, much much faster than the rating of their traielr tires, and their trailer is swinging back and forth, I just keep right and let them pass and pray their trailer does not tip over in my lane when they go zooming by.

About check out? We checked out (just last week) on Thursday at about 6:30 pm. Check out time on week days (non holidays) is 2:00 pm at Indiana State Parks. Why did we check out at 6:30 pm instead of 2:00 pm? Because we needed to leave EARLY. We were reserved on that site until 2:00 pm on Friday! Someone watching us might have thought the same thing .... those people are so rude leaving that late. In fact, we were leaving 20 hours early!

You just don't know what other people are all about, or what they are doing, or why. All one can do is monitor their own actions and let proper management, authorities deal with offenders.

A lot of campgrounds now days don't "guarantee " a particular site unless you pay extra to "lock in" that site number. So enen though you booked site xyz doesn't mean you'll get if they have that policy. Seems like more and more small SUVs are pulling larger campers these days. I think it's due to the increased horse power these days. Just ask them and they'll tell you "but it's got 270 hp and a 5,200 lb tow capacity!". No clue what payload is or means.

I was kinda wondering how someone could tell the weight of a tub.... and I do suspect the minivan they were using to tow probably was not the best or safest tow vehicle but they did have two dogs so they can't be all bad. What is the difference between a mini van and an SUV anyway? Look about the same to me. Most are owned by younger families with a bunch of kids?

The passport has 5k lb tow capacity so probably within the weight of that trailer. Not sure on the payload. Also not sure if a WDH can be used with a passport, i personally wouldn’t tow without one and wouldn’t recommend anyone else does either. Not an ideal tow vehicle, but probably not the worst choice out there either, but their setup without a WDH is definitely questionable.

You never know how they got there, may have lost their house, and this is the best they can do. A lot of people are in a bad place financially with gas and rent being crazy. I wish them the best of luck.

I love the peeking out the window pic and the one where you are sneaking a pic around the end of the camper. Are you only 3' tall or are you so worried you crouched down so they wouldn't see you?

Live and let live man.

Sometimes "Looks" can be very deceiving. Here's a photo I took in March 2022 at Anderson Mounds State Park (Indiana). Actually, this is my trailer and my truck. We were camped there for 2 weeks. The State Park is only about 14 miles from our home. So after setting up camp, I returned home and switched trucks, and this one was parked at the campsite for the rest of the duration. Why did we switch trucks? Because we do a lot of running around and the little Colorado gets way, way better gas mileage.

So, I had LOTS of people stop me and ask me how that little Chevy Colorado tows that 41 foot, 13 feet high, 14,000 pound fifth wheel! I replied back, ... "Just sweet as ever!" And watched the expression on their face! After I got a good laugh, I explained to them I switched vehicles and the dually was at home. Then THEY got a good laugh at themselves! I will say, it was a fun 2 weeks.

So you know, you just never "really" know what is going on when you see people do weird things.

For what it's worth, we were on the exact same campsite again when weather got warmer. Here's the difference in actual tow vehicles. No one ever asked me about this truck though? No one!

George get your vision checked! If I was going to be cute about it I'd say "hey, the dealer did a great job of removing the Yellow Cab decals "!
