Slide Out Roof Replacement - Tech Question

Purchased a used 2014 Keystone Springdale 292 RLGL and the 12' Slide leaked ALOT of water thru fixtures & ceiling. Insurance won't cover bc existing cond/lack of maintenance of prior owner. In Northern OH had a hard time getting anyone to even give us a quote to replace roof, frame & ceiling. Just heard back 24 hours labor $169/hr for approx $5000. I called Keystone to find out if the slide out has to be removed or if the repair can be done with it in place - they would not say. I've watched a good video on utube from a mfg with step by step and it seems like something 2 people could do with significant handyman experience in day. Looking for someone with experience with replacement slide roof for input. Also how can I be sure before we start that it can be done with the slide intact since Keystone doesn't have tech? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

I have done slide floor replacements but not a roof. Thinking out loud:

Maybe you can “hyper extend” the room so that the sidewalls are exposed giving you access to the fasteners. To hyperextend the room you remove the facias and then it depends on type of slide mechanism. If it’s cable or Schwintek this procedure won’t work and you’ll have to remove the room.

What type of mechanism does your have?

Thanks Chuckster57! No manual/info for slide (will have to get that for future reference) and dealer has the Camper for the quote. However, I reviewed all the different slide mechanisms and ours is not Cable or Schwintek. It's a fairly large slide with under frame rack & pinion. I'll be speaking with the repair center and ask some questions about the hrs and if they planned to remove the slide and why and go from there. I'll follow up with what we decide and how it goes. THX!

We removed the slides when I worked at a dealership but we had a forklift and some serious cribbing.
