2011 Passport 3220BH - under couch storage

Has anyone done anything creative with the LARGE storage areas under the front and rear counches in the passport BH camper? The manufacturer put a simple fabric cover over it -- we are thinking of ripping that off to be able to access the open area, or has anyone done snaps/velcro to hold it in palce to keep it "clean" looking? just curious. We just bought our unit 1 month ago.

I built a drawer and used the fabric to cover the drawer front. My drawer is pretty simple and uses large furniture slider discs on the bottom and cabinet magnets on the sides to keep it shut. It’s pretty heavy due to the thicker wood I used.

If I were to do it again (which I should), I’d make the front a hinged door and use storage tubs. It’d be lighter and more convenient. It’s where we keep the kids’ toys, and pulling that large drawer out is a challenge. Without being on tracks, it’s a bit of a challenge for me as well.

Here is what I did with the unused space under our sofa sleeper.
I removed the front kick board from the sofa and attached a piece of 2 x 4 with a 24" full extension drawer glide to the metal frame for the sofa on each side.

I then built a box out of 1/2" pine plywood measuring roughly 48" wide x 32" deep x 8" high.

I then took the metal angle brackets that attached the kick board to the sofa and used them to connect the kick board to the front of the drawer box. Sorry these picks are a little dark. But here is the finished project.

Great idea. We used the rear couch for a toy storage area using plastic storage bins. Works great! The three separate sections each hold one plastic bin and slide in and out perfectly. We use two for kids toys storage and the third for games/books/coloring/craft supplies.

As a followup, I did change my setup. I bought a new piece of plywood and cut it to size as a drop down door, like a drawbridge, and stapled the couch material to the front. I re-used my cabinet magnets to hold the door closed.

I used two Tough Box 27 Gallon storage tubs from Home Depot. It’s not as efficient use of space since the tubs don’t fill up the under-couch, but it works well for us.

I used the same drawbridge method except used a body pillow cover and wrapped the door in it. Much easier to get stuff in and out!!
