Global Slam Latch upgrades

Has anyone replaced/upgraded their standard outside storage compartment door/locks with Slam Latches? Doesn't seem to be that difficult, maybe some cutting and door frame reinforcement for the striker.

Also, any preferences on gas struts vs. door catch to hold them open?

Mine came with the slam latches. Gas struts would defeat the purpose of the slam latch if you then had to close the door by hand...

Thanks Gary. I was looking at the struts for holding open the doors. I know the door would require a little "assistance" when closing, but the latching mech would work the same I assume.

Mine has the slam latches, not sure about doing an upgrade to one that does not. As for the gas struts, have those as well and love them. Yes I have to push the door shut, but it sure beats unhooking it from a catch or having it fall onto the back of your head. The gas struts just means you have to push the door closed, but the slam latches still make it so you don't have to mess with the latch. Just push the door shut and walk away.

Thanks Brent, that is what I was expecting. I am still looking for a way to do the conversion and will update with any findings.

Craig,

Have you considered buying the two doors with slam locks on them and simply replacing the door, frame and locks as one unit? I wouldn't think it would cost very much more than buying the parts and trying to adapt slam locks and their latches to your existing doors.
