irv dvd player

I bought a new passport 3320 in May. We took it out for its first journey a few days later. We found out in an hr that the Irv dvd player after being powered on it powers off and powers itself on again.

The alarm is off. I mean when powers off it resets the whole unit. The clock goes back to 1200.

Related to this, is there any way to turn the darn thing off, completely? The light is so bright it makes it hard to sleep!

In talking to our dealer's service manager about it, he said the power connection was in the back, most likely in the cabinet and not easily accessible. He suggested that pulling the fuse from the power distribution panel would be the best way to completely remove power from it.

There are 4 screws that mount the stereo in the cabinet. If you remove those 4 screws, you'll see a bundle with two fuses in it. One is a 1amp fuse marked "accessory" and one is a 25amp fuse which is the main power fuse for the stereo/subwoofer. If you take that fuse out (temporarily) and cut the wire (mine is a yellow wire), you can add a switch to the wire and mount the switch in a convenient location. Reinstall the fuse, remount the stereo with the four screws and any time you want to remove power from the stereo, just flip the switch.

It takes about 15 minutes to do and you don't have to get on your hands and knees to pull a fuse from the main panel. Remember, those fuses are held in place by a brass contact set. Pulling and reinstalling the fuses will loosen the contacts and can cause failure of the circuit.

The screws holding the stereo in are most likely #2 Roberts head, AKA square head. Phillips screwdriver may work, but having the right driver makes it a piece of cake.

Most of the screwdriver bit sets have the square bits, but FWIW I found the square tip screwdrivers at Lowes a few years back. Inventory seems to vary from store to store, but online they carry sizes #0, #1, #2, & #3. I only mention it because I prefer to just grab the screwdriver rather than dig out the bit and dig out the handle and just in case others here would prefer the screwdriver. I looked several places, finally gave up, and stumbled across them one day in local Lowes.

On second ex6500

Well I sent back my ex6500 and received another one. Well in about an hour it did the same thing.. Maybe I just don't know how to use the darn thing. Can 2 be bad and power off at the exact same time when in use?

Can they? Yes, it's possible. Though the probability of two units exhibiting the same (defective) behavior when installed in the same RV is pretty low. Might need to look for other possible causes and/or consult further with your dealer.
