Hot Water Heater doesn't light

Need to know just how you are to put the switches for water heater to use propane. Do I need to have the on-off switch on the heater in the on position and the switch inside the trailer to the off position, then it should come on right.---Smitty

The switch on the heater has nothing to do with the propane. On most trailers the inside wall switch will turn on the propane side of the heater. Some inside switches are marked for gas or electric.

On ours, the electric switch is on the tank, (120 volt) nestled under the gas feed tube. The propane is controlled by a switch inside (12 volt). Both can be used simultaneously or independently.

If the 120 volt side, electric isn't working, check the breaker. If the propane side, 12 volt isn't working check fuses.

With my cougar my electric switch needs to be on for the propane to work. Thought it was strange but it works.

and here I am, too late for my smart alec response that it won't light because the water's already hot?

Sorry, just a pet peeve - "water heater" vs "hot water heater" ... if it's already hot, then why ...

glad you got it figured out!
