Mudflaps?

And no idea why you wouldn't want a set mounted permanently. Get a set of good flaps and you won't need the receiver contraption.

If you mount mudflaps just behind the tires, don't make them too long.
Backing over a curb, you might catch the mudflap between the curb and the tire.
The mudflap will pull off and might damage the mudflap bracket.

I took angle iron and welded a 2” square piece to fit into my receiver then made mud flaps out of thick rubber pad bought at tractor supply. Every time I hook to 5th wheel it takes 1 minute to connect mudflats in receiver hitch

I have them by Husky along with their floor mats. BIL had Weather Tech on last truck, cannot tell the difference between the 2 except Husky is a little less pricey.

What do you mean no idea? lol it’s called personal preference. I want it to function the way it’s supposed to but also look good to MY eyes. I could make some out of plywood also but I just spent a fortune for the truck and I’m a particular person. I originally didn’t like the look of 8’ beds but I did come around and now like the looks. If personal preference didn’t come into play then we would still be driving “any color vehicle we wanted as long as it’s black” so I am slowly warming to the idea of permanent mounts..I like Rhagfo’s I think I’m gonna order a set. thank you though I will look at duraflaps

We had standard OEM mud flaps installed on the truck and further purchase a set of ROCKTAMER (tractor trailer style) mud guards that are fitted in a standard Class III trailer hitch receiver. We remove/store these when not towing. The unit comes with multiple adjustment points and ability to trim the flap for a custom fit. We opted for the Deluxe model that comes with heavy gauge chrome details giving the end product a high end look.

I just priced a set of oem mudflaps. About $62 and I do lik3 the idea of rock tamers as long as they don’t move around too much and scratch my bumper....not really a big fan of painted bumpers

I would strongly recommend that you put mud flaps on. My first truck that I pulled a Fiver with (single wheel) and I couldn't believe the amount of dirt and grime ended up on the trailer front I should have known that it would happen because the tailgate was always dirty. I put factory ones on and it helped so I got the one's that hook on to my hitch and went all the way across the back and only use it when I tow.

Love my Rocktamers. If you mount them correctly they work great. Mine are on my F350. They do a great job keeping rocks from hitting my trailer. Note: Many new trucks have a 3" hitch. RockTamers do not make one to fit 3" receivers. They do make a them for a 2.5" receiver so keep that in mind. I had to cut a few inches off the flaps so as not to drag them when my 5th wheel is attached. Mud flaps around the wheel wells will not keep rocks from damaging your trailer as they sit to high. My Rocktamers are only a few inches from the ground.

I bought a set of no-drill and bolted them to the fenders, and then bought Rock Tamers when we bought our Fifth wheel. I plan to fill in the center section of them as well. Besides rocks, I want to reduce the water spray being directed to the front of the trailer. There are open areas around the landing gear, propane tanks, battery/hydraulic pump compartments. I think it makes a difference. My trailer is older and I try and protect it.

I know that you decided on the mud flaps. Just wanted you to know that I have a Ram dually and had mud flaps installed at the dealer a year after purchasing my truck. It cost about $150 and it has raised lettering of Ram on both.

Hahah, jasin1, bet you can't look at a truck without checking out its mudflaps now. As many kinds and styles as opinions. You'll find one that rings your bell. A bit grungy, but full winter up here in the sticks.
