They tell us to expect 8-12 inches over the next 36 hours. Just when the snow cover was getting holes in it and I could see the stumps and some of the deadfall out behind the house, here it comes again.

Where the heck did you say that darned overgrown gopher went?????

You must live in the UP or snow belt area. In the thum area there only calling for rain. I'm still waiting for sunny 70 degree days.

We're just outside Gaylord on top of a "Michigan mountain" and we're a "snow magnet" When Gaylord gets 3" we get 6, when they're forcast slight flurries, I break out the snow shovel and make sure the snow blower is gassed and ready.

The wife and I spend all summer not to far from there at Old Orchard campground (near Oscoda). If your into fishing like we are it's a great place and a nice campground with hugh lots.

We are suppose to get 8-12 inches also here in Minnesota just north of MSP it just seems like the damn winter just won't end,we still have 30 inches of ice on our lakes just to the north and our campground opens in a couple of weeks! Looks like I better bring a shovel and ice fishing gear for opener LOL. JRTJH I've been up to the Gaylord area a few times in the past when we raced snowmobiles at the World Series of snowmobile Drag racing held in Gaylord area, its a beautiful area up there! Looks like we are just gonna have summer start about August 1 this year at the rate it's going!

We've camped at Old Orchard a few times during the salmon run. The AuSable River is an excellent "fishing hole". We live on one of the best smallmouth bass lakes in Upper Michigan, so we don't stray far from home to fish the LP (except for salmon). We do go to the UP to a lake I fished 40 years ago. It's remarkable that except for a few extra cabins around that lake, it's as clear and pristine as it was back then. The boat ramp is now concrete where it was gravel in the 70's, but the lake is still crystal clear. You can see bolders the size of a house 50' under the water. When the clouds are just right, you can still see 20 and 30 pound lake trout swimming "down there" And, yes, occasionally they get caught. Mostly, it's small mouth bass and splake, depending on the time of year and what strikes your fancy. It's where I taught my grandkids to fish and even as 4 and 5 year olds, they never got bored, the fishing is still that good. We routinely catch 50-60 smallmouth each in a day's fishing, Most are over 2 lbs and many range upwards of 5 lbs. So, I suppose you can say I'm into fishing, at least a little. It's great to have the fifth wheel and be able to tow the boat behind that.

A week away from even the few streetlights in our area is a week of refreshing and recharging that we all need from time to time. And yes, there's bear, moose, deer and lots and lots of skunks, <sigh> LOL

You're about the same climate as us, except you get less of the lake effect snow. Like you, it's finally melting some, but with what's coming this way the rest of this week, it seems like we lose a foot and gain two

I'm hoping the ice is gone by opening of Walleye season (May15th) but I can easily remember many openers when we busted the ice out of the boat ramp so we could launch boats to get out to clear water to fish. It looks like this one is stacking up to be like that. The lake we're on is still about 24" thick, but there's rotten ice on top, so hopefully between the warmer spring feed and the rain/sleet mix, it's melting from top and bottom. I'm ready to break out the boat and put the snowmobiles away, but they're on the trailer, still ready to drive off and hit the trails if we get this week's forcast. August? That's the only month I don't recall shovelling snow, but I do remember many August days of coats, gloves and fuzzy hats sitting around a campfire wondering why the heck we left home LOL

You got it right, Barney!!! If the dinosaurs were alive, they wouldn't stand a chance with this mess <sigh> I'm betting Lowe's and HD are scurrying like a bunch of rats with a cat loose in the room trying to delay shipment of their spring plant/flower deliveries.... At least the apple and cherry trees haven't started to bloom. I did just see my first robin of the year pulling worms out of a patch of mud in the front lawn, so MAYBE there's hope after all !!!!!

On our old 5er 25' We used to pull the boat behind it. But our new one it's 10' longer and i'm not sure it will be under 75'. Plus there's no bumper to attach a hich to it and i'm wondering if my truck can pull that much. When I pull the boat out of it's winter home (may 1st) I'll check it.
