Win 10 question

I have a game camera that uses an SD card to capture images. I use a USB adapter and can view on my computer. There are a LOT of images; mostly nothing that I would like to save. When I attempt to delete an image, this same image pops up as a COPY. How can I stop making copies when deleting? I used to be a computer genius but can't remember when that was in my old age.

If you are viewing them thru the file folder I typically click on "view" then "large Icons". Then click on one file you wish to delete, hold the shift key and click on another down the list and you have highlighted all in between the two files. Or click on one file, hold down the control key and individually chose the files to highlight. Then right click or hit the DEL key and it should delete the highlighted files.

I am doing this and know how to delete but the delete causes a COPY of the deleted file to be dumped into the same directory which kind of defeats the purpose of the delete. How do you keep a COPY OF A DELETE from appearing when a file is deleted?

Sorry if these are too simple or you've already thought of them...just troubleshooting out loud

1. Are you sure you are seeing copies? Have you refreshed the folder after deleting?
2. Have you restarted your computer and tried again?
3. Have you checked the Trash Can to see if the deleted files are there?
4. Are you sure you aren't dragging the files as you delete? I've done that and created duplicates by accident.

Don't know how a delete can cause it to copy. It will keep a copy in the trash can until you empty the trash can. Are you dragging the file to delete it or are you pressing the delete key? The SD card have the write protect on?

Check your operating system. You may be running Rabbit 6.0 and your files are multiplying instead of being copied. Install Firefox and after a few days it should be resolved.

I know what he is talking about, but I am not 100% sure why it happens or how to fix it. It has happened to me while holding down the Ctrl key and selecting individual pictures to delete, when all of a sudden all of my selections turn to a copy of the originals and now I have two of every picture I was trying to get rid of. I attributed it to maybe lightening up pressure on the Ctrl key in conjunction with a mouse error. But I have to agree with JSB, maybe accidentally dragging on a pic Instead of just clicking on it is the culprit.

It sounds to me like you and George maybe inadvertently dragging the mouse with the mouse key still depressed. It can easily happen depending on your mouse, your manual dexterity, and the speed of your computer (or lack of speed). I'd suggest trying to alter the mouse speed in the control settings.

It is driving me nuts; will just do a format on the SD card I guess. Maybe I am mouse dragging or maybe I am just old and butt dragging. bwhahahaha

if you're using the Ctrl key and accidentally hitting the "C" key then it could also copy.

You might try just clicking once on the top most file you want to delete. Hold down the shift key and click once on the last file to delete. That will highlight all of them without dragging anything. Let go of the mouse and shift key and hit the Delete key and see what happens.

You might try one other thing. You could be "dragging" because of "lag" reading the SD card. What I've practiced from habit is to create a folder on the desktop and call it transfer. I'll move the contents of the card to that folder. That deletes the files on the card. Then in the transfer folder I would move files to other folders or delete the one's I don't wish to keep.

Hope that helps. As for the "other" dragging problem I haven't had to deal with that as the DW kicks it back in place regularly.
