GMC /Chevy Integration with Keystone Trailers

Came across this today in my news feed on my phone.

Looks pretty slick - curious to see how useful it actually turns out to be.

I read that also. Sounds good to me, maybe it will start the other HD trucks to all do the same.

We need a standard, or every integration will be proprietary and of very limited use. Similar to SNMP in the networking world.

As a GM and Keystone guy it sounds pretty cool. As a GM tech I am dreading the day when someone brings there brand new truck into the shop and says “my truck won’t control my trailers awning and ceiling fan. I’m leaving for a week long trip in 2 hours. You can fix that while I wait, right?”

Looks Good On Paper.
A quick search on these forums will reveal how many people have had issues with the inCommand system as it is. When they start to connect in the trucks that will just add another layer of complexity (IMHO).

I guess I look at it with what OP said, “ curious on how useful it will be”

I don’t even like the phone app. I like in-command in theory, but I reset or turn it off/on seems at least once a trip. I have pulled fuse out once or twice to wake up BCM

I’ll get excited when Blackberry gets into RV biz instead of Jensen Or Furion

It's not about the awning and refrigerator, Keystone is exploring electronic scaling on the hitch and suspension points along with air bag suspension with individual control on the fly. Yes, no more going to the scales, your pin weight and axle weights will be on the dash display and you will be able to level up when hitched. At the camp site you can deflate and lower the trailer about one step worth. It will have an on board air compressor. These new Engineers are going to exceed our wildest dreams.

While you're checking your black tank etc. at 65 mph... who's driving the truck? Every thing you should need to know about your camper should be checked during your pre-trip inspection. IMHO just another gimmick, and one more thing to not work right.

My Ford with SYNC has too many "in cab" distractions already!

Good Luck,

"These new Engineers are going to exceed our wildest dreams." Don't kid yourself, those same engineers are the CAUSE of our wildest dreams.
On edit: John's suggestion made me realize 'nightmare' is what I was hinting at...

Or our "wildest nightmares"......

It seems "industry limiting" to me that Keystone is developing a system with GM trucks. There are many of us who WON'T BUY GM (ever). What Keystone is doing, whether inadvertent (can't believe they didn't think about it) or intentional (get started and Ford/RAM will beg us to let them into the system).

Looking at it "from my perspective", if Keystone's system is only available in GM trucks, I'll be shopping Jayco, GD or those brands that work with Ford. I can see this becoming a "first step with all the rest following" or a "limiting step" that excludes Keystone products for Ford/RAM owners.

Not to mention that first "lawsuit" claiming that the system warned me of a safety problem and I was looking to see what was wrong with my trailer and didn't see that school bus stopped in front of me......

They will have a "keep your eyes on the road warning/disclaimer" you can't skip at every power up, to void them of liability for your distracted driving. All card have had that as soon as they started putting screens up front.

I would certainly like to be able to read my faulty black tank sensors at 65 mph.

If this new system of tank sensors doesn't work any better than any I've ever had I wouldn't ever be looking at them, 65 mph or parked.

With all the weight police on this site clamoring for true pin and axel weights it totally amazes me that when some one is offering live, true, accurate pin and axel weights in the cab of your truck it is treated like it was the Bubonic Plague.
For you Ford and Ram fans, is the In Command system not available on your smart phone? Change is coming Like it or not. One last thing, I doubt this information will be available for your distraction once the vehicle is in "D"

Looks like a neat toy (gimmick) but not something I'd seriously consider purchasing or using. More things to go wrong and no real benefit. I don't need to monitor any of those things while driving down the road.

Plus you have the aspect of... pretty decent car/truck manufacturers making quality products that are consistent, partnering with mediocre RV manufacturers who use the cheapest parts and labor available to slap together something that's not as well-built, tested, quality-controlled, or documented. That's a recipe for a situation I don't want to be involved in.

The only thing on my TT I need to monitor while I'm driving is tire pressure and temp.

Mildly interested in this, mostly because I plan to buy a 2020 3/4 ton gasser next year (after they've been out a year). Then a new RV a few years down the road. Who knows if they will be compatible 5 yrs from now, so just a mild interest.

The biggest takeaway for me was in the first sentence
"As recreational-vehicle sales slow from their decade-long boom ..." emphasis mine.
Maybe in future we'll be able to get a campsite without having to book three weeks in advance?

FWIW, the new gen GM HDs will have trailer TPMS built in, just need to put the sensors on the wheels. I believe Ford has already had this for some time. It seems largely to me that this gen of the GM trucks is getting caught up (and in some cases surpassing) the competition on the technology stuff (was always a solid truck mechanically).

For me, the heads up display is pretty exciting. I have that in my Mazda CX-9 and use the hell out of it. I just got my truck new 6 months ago but in a few years when I am confident I will upgrade, the new GMCs will be high on my list and these sort of features definitely help. Will my next trailer be a Keystone? Probably not, doesn't make the truck less nice

I just hope that you can get the camera package without having to buy $2k wheels (?!?!?!) like you do on the 1500s currently.....

Sam,

The Ford SuperDuty TPMS monitors pressure but does not monitor temperature of either the truck tires or the trailer tires...

I don't know if the GM TPMS system will monitor both Temp and Pressure, but I've been told "it's going to do both"...

IMHO, having a TPMS that only monitors pressure is sort of like listening to stereo with only one speaker..... YMMV.
